Rotor/Wheel Stud Stuck :O
Whazzup,
So the tire place, cross threaded my lugs/wheel studs. I suck it up and I'm off to fix it and might as well do a brake job. So the stud naturally breaks off as expected. However, I can't hammer it out. Rusted. So I try to take off the rotor to get a better look and angle. Won't come off either. I'm guessing rust. I hit it with PB Blaster, however, I can't get all the nooks and cranny b/c the rotor is still on. Any suggestions on getting the rotor and wheel stud off? Thanks, DK |

Remove caliper, beat the rotor off of the hub, pound out wheel stud. Just use some muscle to get the rotor off, should come off with some force.

I can't imagine why the rotor won't come off. Hammer some more and say good bye to the rotor for the sake of getting to the real problem, the stud.
Maybe try a good prybar

Thanks guys.
My ears are ringing from all the hammering. But I'll keep at it. The fumes from the PB Blaster was getting to me. I'll try again after dinner. I'll try a torch if I can't get it off tonight. Will I ruin my rotors? |

^does it matter if you ruin the rotors? Didn't you say you were doing a brake job??? I mean thats usually pads and rotors.
There is no reason with a couple of spirited blows from the hammer the rotor won't slide off and then just get a decent size hammer and give the stud a few good blows and it will come out.... |

there are two little holes in the rotor on opisite(sp?) sides of each other. take the right size and thread bolt and screw them into those holes. normally you can use the bolts that hold the caliper on but if there is a possibility that it could brake then get another set the same size as those. just twist them in until the brake or make the rotor release. if they brake then something else is wrong.

Beating the piss out of it always worked for me, and I think I've replaced pretty much all of my wheel studs since I got the car...

get a big c-clamp and put one end right next to the stud on the hub and the other end on the end of the stud your beating the shit out of and tighten the clamp until it comes lose... or brakes the clamp and then take it to a shop to have them do it.

yah use a big hammer! I used a small when trying to take out one of my striped studs, it did not do anything, and it knocked the head of the hammer off the handle lol I was like wtf? Then I used a bigger hamer, and in 2 hits it was out.
