s13 tranny sensors

i am in the process of converting my s13 from auto to 5 speed. i bought a tranny and the 3 sensors that are on the side had all been cut, this is not including the wheel speed sensor at the back. does anyone know what each of these sensors are for and how they wire up? thanks for your help

You need to get a lower engine harness that goes from the back of the gearbox from a manual gearbox. It plugs up to the engine room harness. If it's cut you have to manually wire them up yourself.

Go to a local junkyard. If you can see one with a manual gearbox you could probably just unplug all the sensors and take out the whole harness.

If you don't have one you need to read the FSM. Try getting one from your local dealer.

If it's not possible you have to redo the wire harness yourself. That's as far as I can explain it because it is complicated. A shop would probably charge you 10 hours of labour to fabricate a gearbox harness from scratch.

why not just forget about it, you dont need any of that shti, the only useful one is speed and that is on the main harness.

so you're saying that those 3 sensors don't even really have a purpose? like what do they do? are they for the back-up lights at all? i mean there has to be a purpose to them

OD... maybe Overdrive? When the car tends to lean itself out to give you premo gas mileage on the freeway?

It's the 5th gear indicator. The ECU does something with it, mostly for the top speed governor.

The only two you need is the speed sensor in the back and the middle sensor. The middle sensor is for the back up lights. I only have those two hooked up.

In his defense, zeroyon doesn't have the SOCH FSM and convertible add-on.

i was wondering about that aswel. i mean you're gunna be pushing in the clutch anyways so i don't even think you'd really need the neutral switch. or do i?

neutral is so you cant start the car when the clutch is not pushed in, at least this is what I think, I mean i can start mine in any gear i want with the pedal not pressed in, this is because I dont have my sensor connected. someone correct me if im wrong.

The neutral switch isn't used for starting. You can't start without pressing the clutch even if you're in neutral.

Im guessing autos dont have a plug for that. Well on a manual when the shifter is in reverse the sensor will, I dont know the word, but it will have 0 resistance. So what Im thinking that either the positive or the negative (more likely the negative) wire to the reverse lights will connect to one of the prongs, the other to a gournd, and the sensor completes the circuit when its in reverse.

i guess that would make sense about the connection, so as soon as you put it in reverse you'd complete to power circuit and it would turn on the lights right?
