Timing Chain Write Up SOHC
Does anyone have a good timing chain write up with pics. I've searched and finally found this http://www.240sx.org/links/installs/...ain/index.html
I'm needing something with good pics and discription. I've got the engine torn apart and timing chain gudies replaced, I just want to make sure I put everything bach together right, with the right gaskets.

Ok, Jonnie Faz I really like your write up. But does anyone know how to set the timing. I saw on your write up that I am suppose to line up some timing marks when I'm replacing the chain. But I'm not replacing the chain or tensionr just one timing chain guide. I putting everything back together, but will the timing be correct? I can't find the timing marks on the original chain since it's covered in oil.

Your going to have to clean it up to find those marks. I think my pics are good enough that you can count the links. If not let me know and I will see if I have better pic. They have to be right on or it will not run right.

Ok, well I'm glad I didn't get to far putting it back together. Do I have to rotate the cams to get the gears to line up like it shows in the pic or does the chain just need to be lined up like the pics.

to set timing you need to be TDC #1 on the crank, cam, and distributor. The pic shows the position of the gears @ TDC #1. You might want to down load the FSM and read it before things go way wrong. As a warning if you get this wrong the valves may slam into the top of the pistons causing major damage.
I did my write up as a suplement to the FSM, not as a replacement. I will try to help as much as I can, but I can not be there to see what is going on. Hope this helps |
