pulled this from the book:
Quote:
Strut Bars

These are a must have. Some people opt to only have a rear bar but I believe in both front and rear strut bars to balance it all out. They are simple to install and really improve turn in and cornering capabilities/confidence. Even the ebay ones will make a difference, however the best kind are the ones that are specifically designed for our chassis. s13/s14
alright, the first thing you want to do for a part is explain exactly what strut bars are, explain as if you where telling somone that didin't know squat abou cars. maybe "strut bars are bars that connect the tops of the strut towers together or something like that. This book needs to be something a noob can read without coming onto zilvia and asking questions like
"I don't know what a strut bar is but I must have one!". some illustrations might help explain a lot of the chassis bracing things a bit better.

Yeah seems a few of the posts on there are just people throwing up what they think of the modification not a clear description of what it is or how it is done.

good work guys, the book is expanding. we need someone to expand on the SR20DET swap step by step, also there's lots of room to review any performance parts you may have on your car..

Dude who did the strut bar section? Its not really all that informative.
All strut braces do are to prevent inherent vertical chassis flex that is usually found within the strut towers. It should of also been listed that strut bars are used on MacPherson systems with a monocoque or unibody chassis style.

This is what it currently says:
Quote:
Strut tower bars are a popular modification that provide strut reinforcements during compression and keep the strut upper mounts from changing the travel to being dynamic. These are a must have. They are simple to install and really improve turn in and cornering capabilities/confidence. Even the cheaper ebay ones will make a very big difference. The better design would be the triple tube from ctune or greddy. These provide maximum stiffness with minimal weight. Remember, the tube is the strongest shape. The worst strut bars are Produced by Megan Racing for the 240sx. These have an I beam design and look good, but thats about it. They can actually flex and be bent by hand, as well as bend in half if you stand on them. Good bracing parts should not be that weak for any area
I don't know who wrote it because they didin't use the "discussion" tab to explain there edit.
I don't like the part that says "the worst strut bars are produced by megan racing", I don't really want opinionated reviews in an explination section, that would be better off in a "strut bar reviews" submodule (I'll make one)
If you see info that you think is incomplete or inacurate, edit it, just be sure to discuss and explain the edit on the top of the page in the "discussion" page.

I'm jumping in to convince people to add their .02 in the SR20 performance upgrades section.

We can add anything like z32 MAF and underlying parts... ECU / emanage type parts aswell.

I guess it would be hard to do this without promoting one or the other and then not taking a neutral standpoint... Someone try.

MAF upgrades and ECU's aren't SR20 specific upgrades, thus they aren't under the engines.
On the top page, look under "Ignition and Fuel Management" that's where MAF and ECU stuff should go.

Dropped some knowledge on Welded differentials.

No one has contributed to this part.

My next performance upgrade is going to be some tuning of some sort and I will probably end up with a new ECU or Emanage to replace this SAFC-II...

I don't know too much about aftermarket ECUs so mmmm

Looking good.

I wrote probabbly 50% of whats been added to that thing (hoping to spark others to really make it grow-seems real slow lately). I noted most of my things in the discussion tabs, suppose I didnt note that. What I wrote wasnt entirely a review, it wasnt even opinionated. (I dont "think" it will bend, I "did" bend it) I dont think megan racing stuff sucks, I like them. im saying that the bar produced by them is I beam, very thin, and can flex by hand. why? ive bent one in half after my friend messed up his bracket and im not superman. that is NOT a structurally sound product and that is fact. There is not enough material to properly brace the torsional load of a 240 (maybe a gokart) and thats from an engineering standpoint. I didnt comment on positives or negatives, compare/contrast etc. Im sure megan isnt the only company that makes crappy bars like that, I bet someone copies on ebay too. what I was saying was informative. Get a tubed bar for maximum strength and minimal weight (with examples) get an I beam based bar if you want one that wont do crap and is purely for show (with an example manufacturer:megans). The tube is the strongest shape for load like that- a minimilistic I beam butter knif is not.
