I put in a CAI this weekend and now the car will not idle correctly. When I start it up it will shoot up to about 1500 rpms and then just die. I restart it, and hold the accelerator down and steady the idle to about 1000 and then it will "catch" and stay at around 600. I don't know what the deal was so I took it all off, and put the stock airbox back in and it is doing the same thing. All the vacuum lines are hooked back up and there are no leaks, I don't know why it won't idle correctly now.

Also, when I start it up first thing in the morning it won't fast idle, it will either die, or idle at 600 right off the bat.

I've looked under the hood and visually inspected all the vacuum lines and when I was doing that, it appears that there is no harness connecting into the throttle position sensor on the throttle body. If this wasn't hooked up, the car should be throwing a code 43, but there isn't a check engine light? What is going on here? I am ready to just give up and get another hybrid honda.......... but I love the Nissan too much. Any suggestions?

Joe

Yes, the MAF is plugged back in and I also shot the MAF with a little bit of carb cleaner to clean it out a bit. I dunno what the problem is. I guess I am going to have to take it all apart again and try and find the vacuum leak.

My Honda HB hybrid did that for a while too, turns out the IACV had a tiny leak in it, so the car wouldn't idle for crap. Thanks!

Hey try taking off your battery terminal to reset your ECU for 30 secs or so, cause the amount of air that you were pulling with the stock air box is less that the new air intake. so when you reconnect the battery and start up the car, it will re-adjust and know how much air is coming through the intake to the engine.

hopefully this helps

thats interesting.... Did you make sure the hose that connects the IAAV (IACV on honda) is connected? If you have the DE motor it would have been connected to a plastic "T" that goes in-line from the Valve cover to the intake..

I had that exact same problem after i installed my injen intake, the car ran absolutly perfect until i installed my intake, drove my crazy, i could not diagnose the problem, reinstalled the intake 10 times cleaned everything, change plugs, fuel filter, cap, rotor, reset computer, cleaned out the throttle body, turned out to be the egr valve, replaced it now it runs fine, though now i have a cracked cylinder head. when will it end.

I have a DE and also the FSM, but I can't seem to find a pic of what you are referring to. Do you have a picture? Also if you could get me a pic of your throttle body so I can see if I am the only one in the world without the TPS connected and no CEL. Thanks!

I don't have that "T" from the valve cover to the intake arm, mine just goes straight from the valve cover into the intake tract...... damn, the owner before me has ghetto'ed the hell outta this car.... grrrr

If you don't have the "T" section then you are not going to idel right cus you are missing one of your vacume lines. There are three lines from the intake one to the valve cover the other goes right above the throttle body and the last goes below the throttle body.
