</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote (Natty @ June 15 2002,11:30)</td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">My 5 speed shifts rough, I can barely get it in from 4th to 3rd. I think it is my synchros and I need a new tranny, but I want to try one last thing. Who knows when my tranny oil was last changed. Anyone know how to check the amount and quality of the oil? Then, how to change it?
Or maybe just point me towards a link to do it? Thanks, Jeff</td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'> 1. jack your car up and take it off all fours (make sure car is fairly level) 2. On the bottom of the tranny, there's a drain plug with a square head. The plug has a square indentation about one inch or so across. you should be able to use the socket wrench adapter to loosen it. (may need a breaker bar for this one) 3. Allow tranny fluid to drain 4. remove the fill plug. the fill plug is located on the driver side of the tranny, basically perpendicular to the drain plug. (fill and drain plug the same) 5. put the drain plug back on after all the fluid is out 6. use a handpump ($10 at kragen) and fill 2.5 quarts of tranny fluid 7. put the fill plug back in then you're done. p.s. i think you can pour in the tranny fluid in through the top. just take out the shifter assembly, but I'm not exactly sure on this one. I used DSC's write up on this, but this is only what I can remember off-hand. If you're gonna use synthetic, try using redline MT-90. Seems like most people on here use it, as do I. Hope this helps <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=' ![]()
