SR SR20; why is it hesitating and back firing?

Last night i was pulling out onto the intersection and i had to accelerate quickly. 1st gear was fine then when i hit 2nd it started to hesitate and backfire. Does anyone know what it could be?

Check for air leaks.

Check your spark plugs.

If you're running an atmospheric BOV, you're car will run rich during shifts which can eventually lead to fouled spark plugs.

i also had that problem, when i would first get on it, it would sputter and then backfire then it would go, i changed my plugs and that helped, also the person that put the old plugs in when they did the swap put the wrong heat range.
