SR20 Shim Confusion

Ok, am I not understanding this correctly or am I just confused.

I sliped 3 rocker arms total on both the intake and the exhaust side per a mis-shift. So now that means I have 3 sets of rocker arm shims losse in my motor. So now I have 3 guides and 3 shims for the 3 rocker arms that need to be reseated on top of the valve springs. Due to me being retarded, I lost one of the guides for the rocker arm and when i call to get a replacement per the Nissan part # 13218-53J00, they ask me what size?

I tell this dude I don't know the size so that is why I have the part #. He then says each rocker arm has a individual specific size shim and guide so I will need to measure it. I told him if I could measure it, I would not need to order one.

Is this correct or am I missing something here. I have 3 sets of shims and I don't know if they each go to a specific rocker arm or what

yeah you cant just throw them back in there

each rocker arm goes with one of those shims and one of those guides. They are not all the same. So you got to figure out what combination of shim, guide, and rocker arms all go together.

The only thing that has a size is the shim. I think Id be more worried about where those shims and guides are. When this happened to me I found two in the oil pan. One of them was on top of the baffle and one in the pan.

So you're saying that the shims are only sized and the guides are all the same? The guid just seems to hug the rim of the rocker arm and I know all rocker arms are the same size. I would think the round shims are different sizes and the guides are the same.

yes the guides are all the same size. I think they are .121 inches. If i you look in the FSM you can find all the possible sizes and also how to go about choosing the size you need.

Yes, all guides are the same size. They are only available in one size. The shim is what varies. Ive listed all the sizes here:
