By type-x taillights do you mean the round Kouki's because those came on the 95 and up and the 95 and up came w/ the blacktop sr20det. So your conversion would be technically incorrect. Just my .02
Anyway go to jspec.com they should have just or can get just about everything you need. Be forwarned that your conversion will cost you a pretty penny. JDM stuff is not cheap.....e-bay will be your friend

if ur looking into doing a 180SX type X conversion, ur gonna need:
-S13 SR20DET blacktop, only the early S13's had CA's i think -Type X front bumper w/ position lights and turn signals (bumper is hard to find, Bomex has it for like $1000 and the position lights and the turn signals r even more difficult to find. jspec.com has some pics of them.) -Type X rear spoiler (jspec.com has the replicas $320 shipped, the real ones r too expensive to get) -180SX qtr glass (make friends with someone in japan for this, much cheaper this way. otherwise, u can try eBay) that's the major stuff u'll need. thur's prolly more that i don't kno of. and then there's the little meticulous details: -180SX decal, fits on the Type X center panel -SR decal ("twin cam turbo intercooler"), fits underneath center panel (both decals avaiable at jspec.com) -180SX floor mats -180SX seats -180SX folding mirrors -Club K's emblems (don't kno if this is for the 180SX, but it looks kewl ) -180SX side stripes (they even say HICAS on them) those item's r prty hard to find. this is whur ur friend in japan will come in handy. if u get all of that, i will be SOOOO envious! that is until, i jack them off ya... mwahahaha!

Depending on how far you wanna go with the conversion, you could always switch it to RHD, but that would cost a pretty penny. I would juss stick with engine and looks though. Those 180SX seats look badass, or atleast the ones I saw, that say 180SX all over.
The glass he is talking about is the 1/4 window thing, on your car it says 240SX. On a 180SX it says 180SX. Also for the Center panel of the tails you can juss get a JDM one that says 180SX, I saw it on Jspec, I dont think it was a sticker. Not sure though.

When you look at the side of your 240 there on the rear side window (ie rear quarter glass) you will see that it has 240sx on it. Obvious Guy says "you will need to replace it w/ one that says 180sx" Very hard to find and mucho expensive. See if Ichigo will get it for you. lol

for the type X tails, they make the 180SX decal cuz it doesn't come with a decal on it. or u can get the RPS13 center panel instead.

Quote

When you look at the side of your 240 there on the rear side window (ie rear quarter glass) you will see that it has 240sx on it. BTW when you get the center insert for the taillamps ask for the key for them. Most likely you will not get the key so I hope your trunk release never breaks or you will be ass out .

well, Bomex don't make the type X bumper exactly... it's UAD-405. i can't post that frikkin pic. ARGH!
when i was talkin bout the 180SX center panel, i meant the one for the Type X tails. those use a different panel then the one shown above. the type X panel comes blank and in black. also, if u need the key/lock for the type X, i gots an extra set that i can sell.

Well....I saw the carbon fiber "RPS 13" center go for like $700 ($700 when I last checked) with round tails on ebay last week. I hear they are even hard to find in Japan...so....good luck on that. Maybe get a replica or something...someone has to sell them over there.

ok this is not aimed @ anyone in particular or anything, just FYI...
... technically, the round circle tails aren't Type X lights, same goes for the infamous Type X bumper... this might get a bit confusing, but prior to the restyling of the 180sx in mid-'96 aka "kouki", or 3rd (last) gen., the 180 was also available in the Type X trim. i know that moniker was used for the 91-96 (SR), and possibly for the 89-90 (CA) 180's. i dunno how many of you guys ever heard this before, but the kouki generation 180sx's were available in 3 trim levels and all of them had the same bumper and the circle tail lamps. so as far as the '96.5-98 180sx goes, the trim levels are: 1) Type G - base model, n/a SR, bare bones stock. no wing, sideskirts, rear underbumper/spoiler, and no hatch spoiler. 2) Type S - mid-level, IIRC SR20DET, body kit, power options, etc... 3) Type X - top-level, 'DET, body kit, etc... fully loaded... ... think of it kinda like how there's the J's, Q's, & K's for the Silvia (excluding the Club Q's & K's). oh and this info was sourced from a 180sx brochure. i'm not too sure what trim level monikers were used for the zenki (1st gen) and chuki (2nd gen), i've never seen the brochures for those years... if anyone has any more info, feel free to add... edit: forgot to mention that the "Type X" wing was also available on the Type S. |
