wasup all, i dont have a 240 yet, that is because im not sure weather i want one... right now im looking for an eclipse turbo, prelude vtec, and maybe MAYBE a 240sx.
the thing is, i could get one today if i wanted it, there is an awsome green 97' one not far from me, i have already looked at it and everything. but the problem im having, is the straight line performance, yes i know handeling.. handeling...but i am more of a straight line performance guy, dont get me wrong having a good handeling car matters a ton, so dont tell me to go american. and i KNOW handeling, i have a rx7 right now, and honestly it really doesnt get better than that. anyway my options are--> eclipse turbo (6.4 sec 0-60) prelude vtec (6.7) and 97 240sx!!( 7.9~8.2?)
so what i want to know is, will i be able to make this fast, oh yeah and i know all about sr20det, its just that wont happen for a while...so ka is in. for example will i be able to hit at least 7 sec 0-60 with bolt on's? ex:cai, hotshot header, full race exhaust(no cats) and all other goddies
finally most important!!!! NITROUS, can the stock Ka internals take it????can this engine hold a mear 50-60 shot? i never see anything about nitrous on 240... will fuel supply be enough?? once again it will only be 50-60 shot, most likely 50.

sorry this was so long..but its my 1st post on this forum.

I also dont know that much about nitrous on a 240, but i actually met a guy the other day that has a '95 240. He has a 100 shot of Nitrous. He said he just got a fuel regulator and the only other mods are intake and exhaust. He has been running nitrous for over a year now and has had no problems and he fills that bottle up about once a week. (meaning he uses NOS a shitload)

Out of any imports, I would say the 240 could handle nos better than any other import stock. The internals on the ka are a lot stronger....forged connecting rods, ect. If you want to do a nos setup, get one of the dry systems from N.O.S., or venom. You wouldn't have to mess with any fuel regulations, because the ecu would pick it up as more air coming through the intake manifold, than just up the voltage on the fuel pump. I am not a big fan of nos, but it can be done.

Just save the cash and run the ka-t...Mark

hmm... CAI and headers will cost somethin like $500-600? that's about the 1/4 of the price for an SR. seems like all the money u'll be spending will come somewhat close to the amount for an SR. plus the NOS might push u even further to the same amount of money that u'll need for an SR. maybe u should save all that money for the SR. just a suggestion.

altho, if ur lookin for straight line performance AND handling, i'd suggest saving ur money for the Evo7. if it's anythin like the other Evo7's in japan and europe, u get 0-60 in 4.5(?) and some of the best handling around.

evos are 03's, they wil have around 276hp and will cost anywhere between 27-30,000, and at about the same time, subaru will realease the WRX STi, with around 276 hp also, WRX is waaay more fun to drive according to SCC

nitrous puts the same wear and tear as a turbo or supersharger would do. as long as u have the correct fuel management, u can use it as many times as u want

Ack! That is NOT how your run nitrous. Unless you are running like a 25 shot and dont care about your engine.

If you are serious about nitrous i would recommend one of 2 things. Getting the JWT setup that programs your computer to account for the extra fuel needs. Or running direct port, which is a bit harder to install but well worth it.

the jwt setup....what is that, i have no idea.

if i get my chip reprogrammed but JET can they incorparate it into it? direect port is not really a possiblility, b/c with direct port you have 4 jets, and have no chance but to run really high hp shots. that will blow engine unless rebuilt, so cant do that.

im absolutelky set on a 50hp DRY setup.

but back to my original questions...how much faster can the n/a Ka get with bolt on's???

first off, i call BS on the whole "owning an RX-7". if you really have one, or at least deserve one, you'd know that it has just as much potential for coolness as the 240. You have an FC3S...and non-turbo by the sound of it. Spend your money on a rebuild and a turbo. Don't get a new car...if you really have the FC that is.

also, to the guy who said his friend uses a bottle a week!!! OMG...dude, that's like $2500 a year! he could have had a FAST SR20 by now. Does he realize how dumb that sounds?

EDIT: math...

Eric

your calling bs on me...

yes i have a fc3s, and i love it dearly, but did u not read WHY i have to sell it??

quote from 7 posts up:

why sell?--> insurance, gas milage, no backseat for lovin' , and some other reasons, oh yeah i just want a newer car, it has a lot of miles too.

in other words (for you) i have a 12 year old car, with 140,000 miles on it.
and no i will not rebuild it, turbo it, or anything else, everything keeps breaking, rebuilt engine will not help broken rear end will it...
oh ya and how does filling up on just about everyday, i get 11~12 miles per gallon. and thats no fun, plus insurance company will barly insure my car, which is basically if someone runs into me and a judge is there to see it and prove it, and the guy owns up to doing it so it is clearly not my fault, thats the only way i get money.
stolen, accident, anything= my loss BECAUSE my car is only worth like 2,000, even though i put like 6 into it. and i guess the have a delicate "poilicy"

so honestly dude, i dont care weather u think im bsing or not, i know i have it, my neihboor does too (no cats, very very loud). so mind your buisness. i put too much into this rx7 for someone to tell me "thats IF he has it"

Whoah now guys, no need to get hostile. Y'all are a little too into BS nowadays. Any engine question involving something different from an SR20DET or turbo KA modification turns into a flame war. SILENCE!!!

Nitrous doesn't seem to be as popular on the 240sx, d'know why, d'care why. I do recall a post back in the day something to the extent of the stock internals of an s14 taking up to a 50 shot. JWT makes a nitrous kit for the 240sx, all in all the most recommended. Computer controlled n fun stuff like that.

If you can't tell yet, I know next to nothing about nitrous, just what I've heard here. I'm going to shut up now.

Oh god... I would expect someone with an RX to not ask such a fuckin retarted question. Yes Im heated. First off do the math... you don't have the money to get an SR20 but you have the money to get a N20 kit for a 240? What the hell is up with that. And you only care about straight line performance and dont want to go american? My suggestion is you go get a 510 buddy... Or do something with the fast car that you have already....Oh and please tell me its an FC3S or FD3S turbo II or TT...and you didnt just try to get on the drifting scene with a 1986 baron stock gxl

In my own opinion I don't want you anywhere near a 240...so don't get one. Besides in straight lines the other two are much faster stock... just to be realistic.

I can safely say that without even reading anything in this thread...Nitrous is SAFE for ANY car. Don't believe the old sayings "you'll blow your motor". Now don't get me wrong...but a large enough shot in there and you WILL blow your motor. But seriously now...if you take the time to sit down and do the research, you will realize that it is completely safe. Just make sure your fuel system is built up properly and you should have no problem.

If all you care about is straight line performance, you are looking at the wrong car. granted there are some fast 1320 240's out there, but for the price you pay to get them there you could of done it much cheaper. why are you anti-domestic? seems that's the road you need to take if you are dragging. for 5 grand you can pick up a nice 5.0 mustang put the nitrous on it and run high 13's. That 97 is going to set you back close to 10 grand, and insurance companies still consider us sports cars.
