Just an FYI for those of you planning to go to this event, the speedtrial event at VIR dec 7-8 has been cancelled.

They have another one planned for February 23-24 Sat & Sun
HERE's the schedule for the weekend. Looks like a lot of fun, I'll most likely be there...running with "D"

Though I think you ought to just make the road trip...If you run in "C" or better (IE: not in my class)...I don't think I would have any prob doing that...just would ask you don't push it too hard and compensate for gas

If I can get the car paid off by january, I will definately be there.

BTW, looks like it's only going to be ~$200-$250 for the weekend. Maybe hippo has more info on this?

Take another look at your calendar...

Sat & Sun of Feb 2003 is 22nd & 23rd. 2002 was the 23rd, 24th. I was there

Sorry - there is no more Speedtrial East. I know several people who were working w/ Jon Felton, the former director, and I sorta know Jon (via boards). The group is done and won't be putting on any more events in the near future. Trust me!

There is a CarGuys event there in August (3 days - $600), a NASA event in Nov-ish, and a NASA event in the winter (likely Feb 2003). I'll keep you posted for the later ones.

I'll be there fo sho. Is Nov at VIR or Summit? (and I'm vowing to keep YOU guys updated?)

The question is, what will I be driving?

BTW: what is hte deal w/ the dead link? If you are trying to register for the Nov. event, that might explain it - as registration isn't open yet. Otherwise, I've done about everything NASA via online w/o any problems. (oh yeah - if you aren't, you should be using IE, not netscape). If you are having problems w/ membership, email Elyse Politi at [email protected] . Good luck.

Oops. So many tracks, so little time!

I should be there for that. I'd rather do full, but north is the better of the two. You don't get the infamous "uphill esses" or Oak Tree, but you do get Hog Pen which is a great turn for RWD folks - and a scary one for the fwd crowd. Basically, if you lift you go off and if you understeer you go off!

My only hang up is having a car that soon. I'm pulling the 240 from track service this fall... I just hope I'm not too poor from my next project to make it. I'm sure uuninja will be there and hopefully a few more "s" cars can make it.

BTW: suspension is so much less important that brakes and an LSD. I'd recommend a z32 swap w/ an SR. I have some of the best pads for the factory brakes and they work great... but having driven Brian's SR - I would want a LOT of brakes!! I still have my 125K mi. stock suspension and only recently have I used the limits - so I wouldn't worry as much about it as you might imagine.

Brakes, tires, and LSD - in that order. Those are the most important things for going to a track day. The other thing is that as a novice - you don't really want a car with a razor sharp "edge" (i.e., the point between control and no control) for your first time out. Street tires are forgiving - as is a softer suspension. If you go out there w/ a race car, you will try to drive like it which really isn't the best way.

Hippo,
Just to give you a rundown I have axxis pads at all four corners and drilled rotors up front and upgraded (supposedly) rotors in the rear. I always thought the Hicas equiped 240sx came w/ an LSD
Edit: SS braided lines

Hicas - check - I know nothing about s13's - but that's

Axxis pads in rear on any rotors - check

Axxis pads up front w/ drilled rotors - err...
Rotors (part 1): as a novice, you shouldn't have any problems (as you get more aggressive, you will crack them and it will suck).
Pads: if the Axxis are new, they should be okay (as I hear VIR north isn't too hard on brakes) - but I wouldn't get attached. In a two day HPDE, odds are new(ish) metal master will be at the backing plates by the end of Sunday. Honestly, I'd invest in a set of track pads if you are going to do this more than once or twice. I've got a $135 set of CarboTechs that will last me about 4-5 weekends (other good choices are Axxis Ultimates and Porterfield R4's - all at or over $100).
Lines: you won't notice - but it's an overall good thing.
Fluid: I can't stress enough the importance of running high-temp fluid in a well-bled system!
Rotors (part 2): if you are attached to your cross drills (i.e., you like the look on the street and they cost some $&#036, I'd get a set of blanks for the track (especially if you are getting new pads, so you'll have a matched set). As you know, drills can't be turned and tracks (and track pads) tend to eat rotors. If you paid $150 for the pair or something, I'd order some Brembo blanks (mine were $74 for two to my door) to chew up on the track.
