ka24e idling problems.

I'm sure there's numerous threads out there with the same problem. The only ones i came across were SR20's. So sorry if this is just another repeat.

Ok so here's what's happening. My car's idle has just suddenly started acting up, like out of the blue. My idle keeps flucuating up and down between i'd say 200-1000 rpm. I just started driving my car daily for a week now because i just started work so i hit traffic in the morning and after work. While in the traffic everytime i come to a complete stop, the rpm will drop low enough to where it almost dies. I have to gas it to keep the idle up and alive. So when i start to accelerate again, it feels like it's very hesitant. Usually when i'm accelerating i can feel the power but for some reason i can't anymore. So my main concern is i guess the idle. Since it drops low enough to where it almost dies. When i turn my heater on to 1 my idle will rise to 1000rpm so i do that in hopes that it'll keep my car from dying but it doesn't really help once i started moving and stop from i would a speed of 35+ mph.

Does anyone know the reason why my idle is acting this way? All suggestions are welcome and i thank you guys in advance. Peace.

Hey there...

I am having the same exact problem.

I have a 1996 240sx with the KA motor. Only bolt ons are an INJEN Intake KNN filter and APEXI N1 Exaust.

When I slow down, the idle drops to around 400-500 and sometimes the car will stall. When I turn on the A/C, it minimizes the stalling but it still occurs.

My check engine light has went ON.

I took the car to the dealer and they said that it could be the IAA valve. Can someone tell me which item this is? Is it the same as the MAF? They said it could cost me anywhere between 200 to $600 which is quite a bit.

Any suggestions on what I should do...

Thanks.

sounds like it could be some type of leak in your intake hoses somewhere, check for cracks, etc.

I have a problem similar to this. After a few runs down an 1/8 mile track, my car would idle really rough, and would dip down ocassionaly. It runs fine when I'm accelerating. On deceleration the car would buck. It has since then gotten worse, the car will start but will not hold idle. There is also a hissing noise, so I'm thinking vacuum leak. I checked all the hose connections, there fine. Is a valve stuck open? The hissing noise is whats wierd, but i couldn't exactly tell where it was

When I first bought my S13 w/ KA24E it had a MAF problem in that one of the wires was loose where the wires plug into the MAF and it would cause it to idle weird at times. Once that was fixed it ran perfectly fine. Not sure it's the case with you but I would check the MAF as well as the connections. I had to start my car and and mess with the wires and see it started to buck some to realize that was the problem. I put some RTV into the connector where it meets the wires to make them stay and that fixed it (although not the most elegant solution). Mine only did it sporadically though so it might not be the same problem, just a heads up.

It could very well be a vacuum line like justified2.4 said as well. Just check your intake and all tubes connected to it. If it only does it when idling then I would think it's either some kind of wiring thing (maf or something else) or a vacuum line although I am no expert. I replaced all of mine when I got my car back in February.

I had a similiar problem. Idle was dropping low when warm. I just opened the throttle butteryfly a little to raise the idle(more air) and lowered the idle with an idle screw. Now it idles at a smooth 750. I'm going to try to get it at 700 to see how smooth 700 is.

Do all of the following:

- Reset your ecu by taking out the battery terminals
- Check all your vaccum hoses and lines for air leak.
- Spray intake cleaner around all your hoses to see if idle change or not. If it changes that mean there is a leak there.
- Take off the plastic intake tube and clean inside the main intake and butterfly.
- Check your MAF sensor plug.
- Check your ground wires.

I'm pretty sure it has something to do with your vaccum leak.

That's all i can think of right now. I hope it will help you.
