I just purchased an 89 fb with 188k on the cock. I owned a 93 fb about a year and a half ago but sold it(dont ask me why) and bought an mr2T. I am now tring to sell my 2 to do the blacktop install in my s13. I realize that the sr swap is becoming more and more popular and most everyone has the redtop. I want to be different. I see that is has 220hp compared to the 200hp with the redtop. I just wanted to kow if anyone has done this swap and if it is worth it or not. Also, I figure im gonna be spending at least 5-6 grand with the complete swap and conversion, does that sound about right. Thanks for all the help guys and Im proud to be an owner once again of the best compact drift car

IIRC, S13 redtop produces the same amount or an equivalent amount of hp & tq as the S13 blacktop.  i think what ur tryin to do is install the S14 blacktop into the S13.  that blacktop is the one that produces 220hp.

as far as installation, some ppl say that their aren't many modifications needed to install the S14 blacktop, but, i could be wrong.  the engine should be about $2k-$3k, depending on mileage and condition.  installation should be about $2k-ish.

Wiring will be different VERY different. Thats about the hardest part of s13/w s14 motor. Plus ac won't work. Plus (and this is own personal experience/opinion) The s14 motor sits higher than s13 ex. Cheap strut bars made for s13/s14 will fit s14 w/s13 SR won't fit S14 w/s14 SR. So you might run into some problems.

All in all with the money you spend on an s14 you can buy a Newer (yes newer) s13 blacktop motor and spend that extra to make it a lot faster than a stock s14 SR.
That's just my opinion.

well let me tell you what you're in for. I have a 98 S14 motor going into a S13. My car should be done in about a week or two so I'll let you know how it comes out. But as far as installation goes, the motor mounts can be used off your KA motor, that hasn't changed. My motor is i nthe car already. But wiring of the thing is a beast of a different nature. No AC, my speedo works but my tach doesn't. There are many more wires when dealing with an S14 DET. I was told that not all the wires necesssary to hook up were readily available so they had to be found, which they were under the dash and needed to be lengthened to reach the engine compartment. Then none of the wire colors matched up so an original wiring diagram was purchased from Nissan in Japan. That just came in so hopefully that will clarify everything for the shop doing my swap, after they translate the damn thing. I'll post a pic of my engine bay with the motor in it if I can figure out how to insert the pic. The motor I got for a little on the high side, but hopefully it will be worth it with the VTC making a difference, in conjunction with all the bolt ons and upping the boost. ok no dice on the pic, if someone can help me out hit me up.
