well..from the topic u can see im racing soon..next weekend actualy..an di was wondering..if i can get ur input on it..

i know that there is a lot backpressure in play, but I would like your guys opinion on this subject.
I don't have a expensive exhaust system. i plan to take my whole exhaust off from the headers, right before the cat. is there too much exhuast pressure lost. compared to as when, i would just take off my muffler from the rear axle back.
which would be better?
and my intake system. i have an arm coming out of my headlight.
shoud i run a air filter or not? i know that without a filter would be faster but at the same time i don't want rocks going in. let me know wat i should do on both topics..thanks guys

NEVER DRIVE WITHOUT A FILTER!!! you have to be completely retarded. Its so easy to really screw your car up this way. Sticky valves arent a fun thing to have.

As for the topic- what kind of racing are you doing that you'd want to take the whole exhaust system off!? I trust you have an N/A since you don't mention any d/p or turbo info. I imagine taking the exhaust off would leave you with shit-for-torque, making launching hard, not to mention the car unbelievably loud. I would have to suggest against it.

I wouldn't recommend taking the filter off, either; as long as you have a K&N (or similarly 'proven' high flowing filter) you shouldn't worry so much about it. one race is not worth one engine.

While your at it take of your tires and just role on your rims... I mean if your totally out to fu@k up your car then you might as well do it the right way.
Your exhaust is there to do more then just quite your car down. It creats a current/tunnel affect that puts enough pressure to harmonize all that beautifull power your hot rod is pushing(in its stock form). Now is that pipe the perfect size hmmm probably could be a tad bigger and that is why peopel go w/ cat back exhaust system. HKS, Trust, Tanabe do all that R&D for a reason.
Take your air filter off?? hmm probably would only recommend doing that in the rain...... OOO COME ON YOUR KILLING ME HERE!!!! Dont be stupid. **kick to the nuts**

Driving with no exhaust is an everyday thing for me, I don't think i've driven with my headers closed in about 5 months, and whenever i drive by DT's i look at them and just drive away. NY cops don't give a shit, the open headers drown everything out..its great, i rev my engine and mad people look at me, and then when i start reving next to some dip shit in a ricer, they always ask me what i have under the hood.

The filter is not only to keep out rocks and large debris, it's also to keep out moisture, dust, etc... A fine mesh grill will not keep many things out. Also, why would you take off your exhaust? IMHO, I don't think that will actually help you that much. Use the time taking the exhaust off to practice launching, shifting, etc...

....another intelligent thread... running without a filter isn't going to ruin your car.. at the track do you think there are rocks and sand all over? and the shit your talking about doing doesn't really matter... your gaining what? 2.1hp? maybe?

running without a filter at any time is a dumb idea. Just take my word for it, you'll be better off leaving it on, or go to shucks and buy a drop in K&N. Thats like what 20-30 bucks?
