Taking out a/c
Well search doesn't work for me =( . Car beginner here. Anyone know what a/c consists of? I'm taking it out of my 240 to get weight reduction. Links and parts would help

you may want to try searching other places searched google for 2 seconds and got this http://www.familycar.com/ac1.htm i would also recommend removing other components for weight reduction too. Is there a reason you want to reduce the weight? are you going to track it or is this going to be your daily driver? either way i would recomend light weight exterior and suspension components lightweight exhaust, wheels maybe a smaller battery or relocate it to the trunk for better weight distribution or remove interior trim. I think i would try any of these befor trying to pull out the ac to lose weight, but hey its up to you good luck with ur project

Just get the system discharged by someone with the proper equipment (just venting it out into the atmosphere is a major
![]() Then just remove the compressor, belt, lines and plug the holes in your firewall and you're all done.... Edit: Forgot to mention to remove the condensor as well...

I when took out the AC....removed everything that connected to the core.
AC core, lines and pump. I discharged the freon gas in my driveway. Probably not the most environmentally friendly thing to do, but I called the SPCA and they said the amounts from a car are so low that it wouldnt harm any animals around, ie my pets. so I just did it. but i suggest contacting someone to properly remove it if you can. I would have but I didnt even know that type of thing existed. =/ its pretty strait forward to remove the AC if you just look at the core and check the FSM too. it shoudl show you a layout of the AC system if you browse through it. |

I didn't even bother with the trouble of removing the core when I took mine out; I just removed everything in the engine bay... the compressor is the main thing robbing power from your engine anyway.

I think were talking about two different things... I'm talking about the unit mounted behind the dash. Not the condensor (which you mean by core I'm assuming) mounted in front of the radiator. I removed that as well when I did mine....
My bad though... I probably should have been a little clearer.

The core under the dash can't be taken out anyway, or the heater won't work, unless you want to get rid of the heat as well, or you can get the plastic tunnel from a non-ac 240SX that replaces the core, but they're kind of difficult to find.

The evaporator core can be removed from underneath the dash and the heater still work properly. The heater itself has a seperate core of its own. Which, by the way, is located more toward the center of the dash. The deal is you want to gut and reinstall the black box holding the eveporator core. Other wise you get to install some custom ducting where black box used to be.
