Jeff and I mounted our amps on the inside of the passenger rear fender.  If you pull back the carpet stuff, there are screws poking up, and a metal strip along the side.  (sorry, i'll post pics of this...hard to describe)  If you cut a piece of board (plywood, particle board...anything flat)  you can mount it in there, put the carpet back up, and then mount the amp right up to it.  It looks very clean (you can run all your wires behind the carpet) and is out of the way.
