Kouki tailights .. lighting up weird?

hey i installed my kouki tail lights and they seem to light up weird?.. ive noticed alot of people have there running lights light up the same brightness and then both light up when the brakes are applied.. with mine.. the outer circles are brighter than the insides and when the brakes are applied only the insides brighten.. idk if this is a problem or just how they are suppose to be, but ive seen it different!.. let me know how yours are!

Are the outside bulbs single or dual filaments?

I think the outside bulbs are single filament, that's why it's only one "brightness." Change the bulbs to double-filament and you'll be good.

Remove the bulb that is in the light. Buy a bulb that is the exact same size, but has two filaments inside of it. Put that bulb in place of the one removed. Repeat for the other side of the car.
I'm willing to bet that if you took the bulb into the local parts store, and said, "Hey parts guy, can you show me a bulb just like this one, but that has two filaments?" that they would be more than happy to assist you. In person even!

It will look like your outer lights. When the lights are on, only one filament lights up, then when the brakes are applied, both filaments light up and that's how you get that "brightness."

Take apart the bulb holder in one taillight and take pix of the bulb and the wire harness. I can tell you exactly what's going on.

You probably have 1156 vs. 1157 bulb. Look at the inner bulb and you should see dual filament with 3 wires going into.

Depending upon what your setup looks like, you need to replicate that setup on the outside. The parking light power lead should go to the low intensity filament, and the brake power lead go to the high intensity filament. Both can share a ground wire.

You may need to swap out the bulb holder. I'm not sure until I see pix.

If in doubt, take the taillight into a good auto parts store and they should be able to help you with bulbs, bulb holder, and wiring.

ok people the speculation in this thread is rampant . Those Tails are brand new. There is absolutely nothing wrong the bulbs they are correct. He did not wire his tails correctly which is why he is having the problem. I sold these tails to this guy and they are new from Nissan . I will repeat nothing is wrong with his bulbs its his wiring!

To the ppl saying 1156/1157. They are JDM. They don't have 11fifty anything in them. IIRC, they're wedge based bulbs, but I can't remember the number off the top of my head. It def could be the wiring. He could have the brake lead going the the running light clip on the bulb and they would light up like the brake was on when just the running lights are on. Check that too, assuming the bulbs are correct, which they should be if they are new from nissan (per Drift Freaq).

hah yeah drift_freaq sold them to me, and they are brand new.. when i installed them I figured thats how they were suppose to look and then people changed up the bulbs to make them all light up when the brakes are applied..next thing i figured was the wiring, my car isnt exactly wired up very well.. so im guessing its that..but instead of having some stupid arguements over this lets just try and figure out the possible problems.. not reason for the arguments... they are brand new and yes its probably my wiring.. that solves it but what could be wrong with the wiring?

thanks for the help guys!

Check my post above. Could have the signal for the brake light brightness going to the running light brightness terminal on the bulb holder.

I wired the yellow/green wire into the white/green wire on the outside bulbs which caused it to stay on the "brake light" the whole time.. but its fixed now and all four are dim when its on running lights and all 4 brighten up when the brakes are applied!

THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP EVERYONE!

you can lock this up now i guess... problemo solved!

thanks again!

Hello, did you miss the fact that I stated they were brand new? Man don't tell me your now going to argue that brand new lights from Nissan with brand new bulbs are going to be bad. Especially when I have sold over 100 sets of these with no bad bulbs. Your argueing just to get the last word in. Give it up. I am not acting like a know it all. I do know about his taillights that I SOLD TO HIM!! you need to just shut your ass up. you fail as a premie.

I think he was just saying that they were just trying to help him out and without knowing that he bought them brand new with the bulbs that that was the first thing that comes to mind. No one knew you sold the lights or what you sold with them. OK! Back to helping the thread starter!!

Dave, Simoun, BOTH of you leave it the fuck alone.
You want to fight over this, you're local enough to meet up some where and duke it out on your own time, but please discontinue this bickering out in front of the rest of the forum.
