I had my mind set on the S13 SR20DET black-top but after extensive research I have come across the RB25DET with 250hp stock and a I6. I was planning on buying the FMIC, downpipe, clutch, flywheel, bov, egt, Z32 MAF, fuel pump, apex-i n1 exhaust, greddy intake manifold, greddy pullies, turbo timer, boost controller and injectors running at 12psi. My question is... will these bolt-ons to the SR20 take me to the power level of the stock RB25DET? For the post flamers, yes, I do have 8K to spend! But if I get the RB25 I won't have anymore $$$ and it will have to remain stock for a while. Thanks

your right about the RB, if you get it you really will have no money left at all. Remember, its a custom job since it didnt come on the 240SX or silvia. I'd go with the SR, because its cheaper, and it fits like OE.

the sr20det will make 400 hp with a boost controlled, a bigger turbo, and fuel upgrades..
now how long it will do that before it blows up, um.. well id use a big intercooler and maybe a new headgasket, among other niceties...in some attempt to preserve longevity. the rb25det is harder to find parts for in the states, too. |

What are your plans for this car? Road race/course, autox, drag, show, or touge? The only two uses I see an RB25 for are show and drag. Otherwise, all things point in the SR20 direction.
OTOH, if you put the RB25DET in, you can always say that you have a Skyline engine in your car. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=' ![]() If you slapped 8k in my hand and told me to spend it on my car, I would have an SR20DET w/ GTi-R turbo running light boost (10psi or so?), 444cc injectors, full coilover suspension and Do-Luck products throughout the car.

Heres my 2 cents..............
Everyone is correct about the SR being cheaper and easier to get parts for. It is, trust me.... I had my friends in Japan looking for parts for my motor all the time. Quick background on me... Had the SR in my 240sx from 1997 to 2001 then went to a RB25. Currently have a Pro import Datsun 510 w/ SR20 making about 400+ if I can get more time to set the motor up. On a self, 800+hp SR waiting to go into the dragcar once the car is set up for the track. As for the Rb bring only show or Drag.... WRONG... The SR would be better for Drag racing then a RB25. This is why I have the SR in my dragcar and not the RB25. You can get more power and a higher shift point out of the SR then the RB25. Drag racing is all about topend speed and power. For all else you need the power band every where. Unless you like shifting all the time and reving the hell out of the motor...... But as for canyons, drifting, road courses and autox.... I would go for the RB. The power on the RB is alot smoother then the SR. This will allow the driver to use the whole power band and not just the top end like you would do on the SR. I did canyon racing and drifting with the SR and loiked it but I love the RB's power band for the Canyons. Think of the SR like a 2 stroke bike and the RB as the 4 stroke. The 2 stroke is a very rev happy and makes great power on the top end but the bottom end is dead. The 4 stroke power band is great from bottom to top, but you can't rev the hell out of it like a 2 stroke. For more info check out this older topic on the RB http://www.zilvia.net/f....0;st=25 I hope this helpes you out. Grumpy www.mckinneymotorsports.com

SORRY!!! I just reread my post and I think I came on alittle too forward. I have to remember that people have different driving styles.........SO SORRY!!!
Anyway, I hope to have my car and my friends 240sx w/sr weight in the next week. I hav eto set the coilovers up anyway so it'll give me a chance to compare the two cars. Both cars are S13 coupes One SR One RB SR has little interior left and a full cage and battery still in the front. Rb has full interior, full sound system, full cage, and battery in the back. As for driving and feel of the car. They feel the same. But numbers will tell the whole story. As soon as I do this I'll let everyone know. Grumpy www.mckinneymotorsports.com
