s13 sr keep stalling out!!!!

last week i changed the plugs on my sr (ngk iridium) and everything was running fine. later that day i gor some 93 oct. gas fill the tank. so today when i turn on the car the sr was acting kinda rough. it would turn on and then after 30 sec it would stall out by it self. the car would hunt and then stall out. when ever i rev the car i would hear a grinding sound after the needle goes down the the idle rpm which is at about 1100. i noticed that the cat has rusted and broken off at the flange. that might explain the grinding sound but what about the constant hunting of the needle and the stalling out???????

what heat range did you get the plugs. and i dont think you filling up the tank hurt anything. Start simple check all the vaccum lines, intercooler couplers. also check to see if you have an exhaust leak between your turbo and manifold. then you can worry if you find nothing. oh and make sure your coil packs are still bolted

if by constant "hunting of the needle" you mean an "erratic needle", then this situation is similar to my experience with my crx years ago.. my car would turn off unexpectedly while i left it warming up in the mornings. plus it would shake violently.. i think my mechanic changed the camshaft or the crankshaft.. i forget which one he changed.. it worked perfectly fine after that..

You left that open to a pretty broad range!

I had a simular problem before I started my SR project. Turns out the #1 injector was going bad. You should be filling your tank with 93 octane in your SR all the time if you aren't already. If it is bad gas did you go to the same gas station you normally go to?

If there is water in your gas some how some way try adding some dry gas and let it sit for a while and restart your car and see if the results are any different.

if you're running stock boost i would say ngk bcpr7eix would be the iridium plug you should run at .030 gap, if you're running ~14psi then you want to go with a .028 gap, i have no problems with #3330's which are ngk bcpr7es they come .030, so if you're running stock boost just pop those in, if more then .028. as far as erratic idle i'd definately start by checking for vacuum leaks, check your intercooler couplers for cracks and also spray some carb clean around the fuel injectors where they meet with the intake plenum as those tend to be common areas. definately take care of the obvious also, such as your exhaust leak. but even an exhaust leak won't make your car exhibit those symptoms. might not be a bad idea to hold the car at 2000 rpm and spray carb cleaner into a vacuum port so it cleans some of the junk/build up in the intake manifold ie iacv etc.

yeah this guy might have something going here.. you just might have some water in your gas... this happened to my mom's car once and she was having the same probs as you... her car shook badly and stalled at a stop sign too... she pumped 76's 91 octane!!! (the highest octane we have here in socal).. i don't know if you should go as far as draining your gas tank, though..
