I'm just curious about how you people normally drive. (I'm not talking about launches for racing.) You gotta use the gas and clutch pedals together of course, but which one do you use first? Do you slowly release the clutch pedal first and then give the car some gas, or gas first and then slowly engage the clutch?

I started learning a couple weeks ago. I was doing gas first and then slowly engaging the clutch.

not pointed at anyone specifically but does everyone drive automatic cars in this forum or something? apply gas then more gas you give more you let go of the clutch pedal.

I just used a scale method. The same amount of pressure I put on the gas is the same amount of pressure I let off the clutch.

Yes, unfortunately, I DO drive an automatic. I'm still learning how to drive a 5-speed, kthx.

Normally I work the gas as I let off the clutch, but on hills I let off the clutch until it grabs while holding the brake first, then go to the gas...that way the car won't roll before the clutch engages.

This is kinda neat. So far it seems like about half the people let the clutch start catching first. I usually apply the gas first and I thought that's how the majority does it.

I was just wondering because I remembered this tutorial for beginners that said to feel the clutch catch first, and then apply gas. I thought that was weird because wouldn't that be more difficult, especially for beginners? I guess that's less wear on the clutch though.

Also, when I do it that way, I've never been able to "feel" the clutch catch. (Cuz of my shoes maybe.) I only know it's catching when I see the car start moving or hear the engine slowing down. Ah well wutever. Just wanted to see what you people do.

neither........you're right and left foot should be doing exactly the opposite of each other, as you let out the clutch you simultaneously give it gas, as soon as you depress the clutch you're other foot comes off the gas, but if i had to pick one or the other, that beginners guide is right, let off the clutch till it begins to engage (yes you can feel it in you're foot, you're just not paying enough attention, you can also tell by the revs beginning to drop) then feed it some gas

it's not that hard.... if ur just learning. .the best way is to rev to 2 grand.. slowly let out the clutch,, when u see that ur rpms are going down.. give it a lil more gas and try to keep it at 2 g's... that is the best way to learn IMHO,, once your good.. it so so second nature, i tap the gas and let the clutch out. keeping the rpms low if it's wet,, or keepin it around 1.5 to 2,, untill it engages completely.. and then i'm off...

You should try starting up hills. Those are fun. However, I gas first then clutch, but it's usually so close together that it seems like it's at the same time. I don't know though, I never really pay attention to how I do it. I just do, I'll see how I drive tomorrow and let you know.

Well there is a certain amount of free-travel in the clutch pedal. I usually let the clutch up until right before it starts to grab and then give it some gas and let the clutch up the rest of the way while progressively giving it more gas. How far to let up the clutch is just something you get used to as you get used to driving the car. Every car is different

 I find that flooring the accellerator and then dumpin' the clutch works fine   I don't tend to move much for about 30 seconds or so and once I drive out of the smoke cloud I get myself straight down the tyre fitters!
