i have kind of similar problem to this guys post...

but mine happens when i go around 55-60. i can feel it in the steering wheel and my friends tell me both my front tires shake like crazy. i just got the rims and tires balanced and i had an alignment already. this started happening outta the blue cause the car was fine. it shakes wen i accelerate and also wen im off the gas. it wouldnt do it so much if i speed pass 55-60 tho. ive searched and looked under my car already. would hella blown coilovers cause this?? cause i hear it could be the tierods, steering rack, or worn out brake rotors. any help pls!! thanks.

Best bet is to check your tie rods and to really inspect your tires for uneven wear.

Sounds like the symptoms of an alignment/balancing problem but since you say it's been aligned recently I'll take your word for it.

Same offset rims, size tires etc on the front? If your tie rods etc are bent they'll most likely notice it once you bring it in for alignment. Take it back to the alignment shop and see if they can pinpoint the problem.

Check the tie rods. Shake the wheel at 3&9 for play. If theres a significant amount of play then its the tie rods, mostly likely the outer tie rod. Good luck

I have seen some wheels which need a hub balancer I think they call it. I can't think of what it's called though...might want to look into it. Maybe the hubcentric something IIRC...

Also make sure your suspension is tight. LCA Balljoints shouldnt make the wheel wobble unless they are absolutely shot. Does it have an aftermarket suspension? In case you didnt check, make sure the lug nuts are tight lol. Hopefully the shop tightened them.

wel right now im running sportmaxx rims 962 17x9. and jic coilovers. i have a 10mm spacer in front and no spacer in the back. the tires are 215 front and 225 in the back. im pretty sure its not the tires on the 962s cause i put my other set of rims i had on the car before, which didnt make the car vibrate, and it still vibrates like crazy. i guess il try and take it to a shop. any other ideas?? thanks guys

Is the spacer you're using hubcentric?

In any case, in my opinion, since you've already done an alignment, it shouldn't be the normal tie rods, balancing, etc.

Jack up the car (be sure you jack up either the whole front or whole rear as to reduce the tension on the sway bar), wiggle the rims back and forth and see if theres any play in either the hub or the hub/spacer contact.

My 90 Corolla is having similar problems. Vibrations in the steering wheels and pedals, loss of power and poor gas mileage. I've checked the brakes, replaced them, balanced the wheels and aligned the car. Seems to get better for a few days and then back to the same or worse. Lately steering is getting heavier and car likes to wobble. Bumpy roads are like driving on rail tracks.

Sorry for the long post but I've talked to various people and they all say the same - balance wheels, alignment, etc. Some have suggested to check the bearings (I'll be doing this soon) and the power steering rack and pump (this is what my gut tells me is the problem).

So I'm going to check the bearing and get new tires w/ alignment pretty soon. If the problem persists than I may just drain the PS rack.

Something to think about.

Seriously though, it "may" be your tie rods, but if the steering doesnt feel super sloppy, it is probably a bad ballance on the wheel. Take it back for another ballance.

Some shops/techs just dont know how to. A friend and forum member here had to go for like 5 different balances at 3 different shops until they got it right.

make sure your wheels and spacers are pretty much centered before you torque your lugnuts...

i hope you have longer studs to go w/ your 10mm spacers... the most you can go w/ stock studs is 6mm spacers... beyond that... its not safe... you need at least 8 turns to torque your lugnuts...

sounds like the shake i felt after one of my front coilover shocks blew.

Several things can cause this... being very specific helps alot!!

If it only happens;
durring braking.... rotors are warped!!
at a set speed like 50-60... rims are warped!!
when braking and at varied speed... damper is worn or blown!

One way to check dampers is to bounce one side of the car and see if it keeps bouncing, or if it stops after a single bounce... single is normal!
You can also have a friend drive around you while you are at the critical speed where the steering wheel vibrates the most... they will see one (or all) of the wheels look like its hyper-active!!

Also you can't always trust the tech guy to tell you if your wheels are warped!!

well it doesnt really matter if im braking or accelerating because it still shakes the same way between 55-60.

If you have aftermarket rims, do you have the hub centric ring ? That caused shaking in my car at 50-60mph, when i put them on, the shaking went away.

i dont have a hubcentric ring but what size should i get for my 962's?

The stock hub is 67.3mm, you will need to measure the hub diameter on the backside of the wheel.

It sounds like you need hubcentric spacers. If you are interested in a perfect set, hit me up!

My S13 started to shake violently very recently. I just started it up one night and it started to convulse. Well, when I got it home, and popped the hood, I had to hold the hood in place by hand because the shaking was so bad. It looked like it was the engine that was shaking the car around and shaking things loose. I also noticed a difference in the sound of the exhaust (usually it's a much louder tone) and the engine wasn't making as much noise at the RPMs I usually shifted at (I ended up shifting at higher RPMs until I realized what was going on and kept an eye on the tachometer--I couldn't hear the usual tone in the engine to let me know when to shift). Could it be due to a broken engine mount?

If you just had an alignment and your tires balanced. Your going to want to look at the tie rod ends and make the lock nut is tight. On the control arm there should be two nuts where the caster is adjusted, you might want to check if those are tight as well. If whoever did your alignment didn't tighten something that could cause your problem.
