My engine did this a lot last night. We left it in the Randalls parking lot and had it towed today. Anyways, for my car it was a fuel problem. The tank was half full, but the hoses weren't bringing any into the car. We think the fuel pump, relay, or filter is faulty... I'll tell you what it turns out to be. It could be any number of things though, my friend's 1991 240 wouldn't start because of a vacuum hose.

Check and see if it clicks, otherwise might be your starter/alternator. Best thing to do, is if its a 5spd, push start it, take it somewhere to get the wiring tested. They did that on my car, and I found I had a "flat spot in the starter". Hope it helps.

is your steering wheel lock engaged?

I had this prob when I first got my car... if your wheel lock is on, and the car has pressure on the tire, leverage will make it so that you can't turn the key (the tire has a lot more leverage on your pinion than your little key does). Pull against the direction you feel pressure to relieve stress on the lock tumbler and turn the key... it's kind of hard to express in words... just try to rock your wheel back and forth while turning the key

Hopefully your fix is that simple, otherwise, try and give us more info and someone can most likely help you out Good luck!

Unrelated, but funny story.
In my old shitbox Jetta, the doors would freeze in the winter. I got in the habit of heating my ley with a lighter for 8 seconds or so. It actually helped. One time I cooked the shit out of my key, it was all black. I stick the key into the ignition and it won't turn over! Turns out, the key finally had enough, slightly changed shape, and wouldn't work with the tumblers any more. I had to straighten it out in a makeshift "ghetto vise." (two bricks)

Hmm, I gotta agree with these guys. It's either gonna be something to do with the wheel lock, or a problem in the lock itself (I dunno enough about keys and locks to help in that department). Try wiggling the steering wheel a little bit, see if it will let you go then
