Buying from Osaka is just as bad as buying from RNDfactory. Just don't do it.
Like boogerlovers said, look into getting your motor from Marco at SR20store. He's a real standup guy and backs up his product 100%. G-Dimension is good in my book as well. |

^^^ Damn Fly you're gonna bash R&D like that? Even though Jack's not there any more, Ed still hooks it up and the mechanics aren't bad. I'd get a swap done at R&D if I needed to.
G Dimensions/Marco/Garage Boso are all good shops too ~

New bearing don't give us the turbo back. New bearings don't replace the grinded up crank that needs to be replaced. New bearings don't replace the rocker arms and cams that were grinded up. New bearings don't pay for the machine shop to rebuild the head and block. New bearings don't give me my weekends back troubleshooting the stupid "motorset" all to find out it has rod knock and he won't replace it. New bearings don't do shit and Ed is kidding himself if he thinks that makes up for the way he treated us. Ed blamed it on us for taking 4 months to get the car up and running. When you have that many things wrong with a motor and can only work on it on the weekends, how do you expect to get it running right in a months time when you have to troubleshoot every single thing that came with the motor. He knew there was sludge in the motor at the very beginning after I had Jack talk to ed about it to find out what we should do. He knew it had a bad ECU because he replaced it. He denies the fact that the mechanical timing was off and said we installed the CAS wrong. He made it out like I was lying to him that I had to fix the mechanical timing. I know how to stab a CAS and I know how to time a motor. I had to fix the mechanical timing to get it running right because the stupid chain was off. He then said, sometimes we have to set the timing to 30 degrees to get them to run right like as if he knows all these special tricks of the trade. I feel bad for all the cars they set up to 30 degrees at their shop. Say good bye to your pistons and piston rings. I prefer OEM 15 degrees all day long, all day strong, especially with cali piss gas. I am not knocking anyone that works at RND. My only beef is with Ed since he's the one in charge and he's the one that made the decision not to replace the block. ![]() |

osaka is trash man, avoid them. buddy ordered an sr20 there came with a blow turbo. another guy got a 13Bturbo, had blown seals all over the place, needed a full rebuild and new rotors. not a good place to buy from.

Damn Flybert that's a horror story for sure. I've always seen Ed make things right, but I guess I stand corrected for now :/
To the OP, you got your legit spots. Call em up, set up a time, and swipe that CC.

If I owned a SR importer shop
I'd just rebuild all motors regardless and sell like that OEM rebuild, nothing fancy, just back to OEM spec You could charge more as a business, and as a customer you'd be 100% on the motor rather than guessing what's gonna happen Not very cost effective and you won't sell the most motors, but I think less headache in the long run And you could stand behind your product, rather than selling truly USED goods Kinda like used wheels shops polishing all their wheels before putting for sale And the majority of shops that people will list in this thread are gonna just be resellers, not the actual importers of the motors

as i say in every "where to buy an SR thread"... they own the salvage yard in japan, they own the shipping company, they own the stateside retail operation as well i can vouch for the two SR motor sets that i bought from them, plus a few dozen that i've seen locally from them |

i had marco do my swap beginning of the year and i'd definitely recommend him. he may charge a little bit more than others, but he will give you the state of mind with brand new belts, refreshed engine and everything you need to make sure the car is reliable. if you can, go check out his shop and talk to him. and if he has extra parts lying around, he'll hook it up. he threw in a nismo racing clutch, and a 3" greddy downpipe he had lying around with the install. another thing i liked about marco was that he only works on 1 car at a time to make sure everything's perfect. so no need to worry about a shady job from him.
before going to marco, i almost had it done at R&D, but i went to their shop to talk with one of the guys, since they were pretty cheap. but the first thing the guy said to me was "we can do the swap for you, but we don't guarantee our work." after hearing that, i just walked out and called up marco to set an appointment. you should definitely stop by his shop, on Gardena Blvd and Western Ave and check it out for yourself. but make sure you give him a call as he's not in the shop at times. |

Also, if you wanted to pay a little bit more, check out Ernie Fixmer's place. If you buy the motor, he'll install it for around $3000. Now, before you gawk at the price, understand that Ernie basically does a half rebuild on the block for that price. I don't remember the entire list, but I know things like greddy head gasket were on the list of things you get for that price. His mentality is like what A spec said, sell an engine that isn't a "used" part, so that way he can stand by his work and never see a motor ever come back. I know he does sell engines as well, I'm just not remembering the price.
His shop is located in L.A., and I'm sorry for the half coherent post, my brain is still hurting |
