s13 Engine Problems

So after 3 days of my engine refusing to turn over, I decide to give it a try today after the brake upgrade. It turned on. Mind you, when I first did the swap, it turned over almost immediately.

For about 3-4 minutes she was running real smooth. After that a noticeable stutter began. About 5 minutes after that, it started idling at even lower RPMs. Gradually, the hesitation began to last longer and longer until finally the car shut itself off.

My question is what are the possible areas I have to cover to figure this one out? I've been told fuel injectors, timing chain, etc. The car does have less than 100,000 miles, but it's I'm not sure the exact mileage.

Second opinions, anyone?

(Btw, it won't start again...)

I changed the fuel filter, but it still won't start. I am waiting on an alternator since all the lights turned on at one point, so I'm hoping that a dying alternator might have something to do with it. Then again, false hopes have always been my thing.

Anyway, distributor (came with ignition coil), iridium spark plugs with new wires, oil changed 80 miles ago (tranny fluid, too, even though I know it's irrelevant), new thermostat, all fluids filled, and a few more things I can't really remember. All I have left to replace is fuel injectors and the alternator, that I know of.

Would that really have a huge affect on it?
I gots no money and no job, so I have to get this fixed ASAP.

mine is doing pretty much the same thing. i changed the throdle sensor and it seemed to work, now this morning it was running like a huge dump again, so my man took it to work and he said he cleaned out the intake...and it seems to be running good. but the check engine light is still on. I changed the injector plugs and it still did it. Im not sure if the injectors were changed, but im sure they were. Im thinking of a vaccum leak, but if that was it wouldnt it have white smoke coming out of it all the time???
Im pretty stumped on that one too, and your car seems to be doing the same shit as mine except a little worse. let me know if its that alternator, Id like to know...
hope you figure it out!

All is for the 96, except some jerk sold me a '92 harness telling me it was '96 but by the time I realized it, it was too late. The only thing I'm waiting on changing to DE standards is the alternator, which I have coming on it's way.

It keeps cranking and won't turn over right? Last time that happened to me, it was my fuel pump. Walbro's are cheap. A friend of mine checked to see if the fuel pump was at fault by pulling one of the vacuum tubes and spraying carb cleaner (I think) while I tried to start it. Before trying this, let some other guys on here verify how to check your fuel pump first....I don't know firsthand if the method I tried was safe or not

I've talked to someone already about the pump, and as I told them, the last time I checked, which was about 2 weeks ago, when I was finalizing the E-DE swap, the guy I was with thought the fuel lines were backwards and the pump might've been gone, but when he pulled the hose out to verify, he was surprised by an explosive shower of gasoline... I don't know the probability of the pump crapping out on me in 2 weeks, but I'll probably end up checking again tomorrow (when it's not as cold as 2300 at night).

UPDATE:

The fuel pump was the source of the problem. Actually, it was 1 of the 2 problems. Since there's no real power going to the pump it was assumed the pump was bad. But, with a new pump installed, and still no power going to it, I'm stuck in yet another wonderful spot.

Any suggestions? Also, does anyone have wiring help in terms of the wires going to the pump/gas tank. I have someone helping me out, but we're not 100% sure which wire is what.

And lastly, does anyone have links for FSM's?

Problem with that is that I did a KAE to DE conversion. So there's a chance it could be wiring....

Anyone know where to find a re-pinning wiring guide?

Sounds like the alternator. Cause the Battery recovers over time. then you suck the life out of it again.

Boy, howdy... I hope you're right. I actually got an alternator not too long ago, but wanted to wait till this one gave out (which it did show signs of).

Thank you for your input!!!
