Well it depends if you got OBD1 or 2. You might as well go to a local car parts store and rent the little scanner tool and fix the problem. Most likely its your Evap, those go bad all the time.

Yeah, he's right. To pass smog they need to see your CEL blink when you turn your car on with all the other lights. If you just cut the wire and the CEL doesn't show during start up, it won't pass.

oil pressure or battery.

Strange thing though - Nissan put that there to let you know when your engine isn't working right. Why would you want to drive around with a questionable engine?

if you replaced the valve then there are only 4 other possibility's.
1. The EGR solenoid is bad
2. Other EGR passage is clogged
3. The wiring from the ECU to the solenoid is shorted
4. The ECU is bad.

First test, pull a vaccum on the EGR valve while the engine idles, If the engine stalls then you the Valve is working and the passage is clear.
Second test, unplug the solenoid and use 2 pieces of wire to provide ground and B+ from the battery to the solenoid. If the engine stalls then you know that the solenoid is working.
Third test, use a test light or multi-meter. Allos engine to reach normal operating temp. Unplug selnoid and raise rpm to 2500. If you recieve power on 1 pin and ground on the other than you know that the wiring and the computer are good and working. If you do not recieve power on either pin than check that same wire @ the ECU.
Good luck!

EGR is used at part throttle acceleration and cruise to lower combustion temps in order to reduce oxides of nitrogen (NoX). I rec. that you get it working.

Haha.

I do that all the time.

sshhhiiittt

OP: Don't cut anything. If you want to simply not deal with the light, take the bulb out of the cluster.

But smog techs will fail your car if the light doesn't illuminate when they turn your car off/on.

That's why you wire it to your oil light.

And then once you are driving and your oil/check engine light come on for real, you'll know you're fucked.

Just what a check engine light should do.

haha.

Just spray a bottle of throttle body cleaner in to the egr.

Prior to smogging a car, it was reading 3000k+ nox.

After cleaning, it read 280 or something.

Huge ass difference.
