P1706 Park/Neutral Position Switch

My check engine light is on because of the P1706 Park/Neutral Position Switch. Is is hard to replace? Can I do it myself or do I have to bring it to the nissan dealer. Is there a how to on this forum for the P1706 Park/Neutral Position Switch replacement. obtw I have a 98 kouki. I also did a search and found nothing useful.

Thanks

This is an automatic trans right? It should be on the side of the trans and the shift rod should go through it. I have never really looked at an automatic 240 so I could be wrong, but that is where it normally is.

Manual trannies don't have park/neutral switches, they have a neutral safety switch and a clutch pedal switch. Was the car converted to a manual trans from an auto trans? Are you running an a/t ecu to eliminate the speed limiter? That's what it sounds like to me.

I bought the car as a manual. I don't think the car was converted to manual because the previouse onwer didn't mention anything about it being an auto. Is the switch important? CAn I just reset my light? O yeah the check engine has two codes, both was the P1706 Park/Neutral Position Switch.

Yes the manual trans has a neutral switch. Same thing when I got my s14, cel is on for the neutral switch. It's easy to replace just like the sensors but kind of hard to reach. I ordered the part from a nissan dealer, just go there and ask for the neutral switch. They don't usually have it in stock so you need to order it and it's about $37. It's the one closest to the shifter assy when you looked under the car on the passenger side all the way almost to the top of the trans housing.

It doesn't have an effect on the way your car runs but your light will stay on and even if you reset it, it will go back on the next time you start your car.

Plz help, bugging the shit out of me

I replace the neutral switch and reset my check engine light. It was fine for a few day, but then the check engine light came back on. This is really annoying. Is there any way to delete this code completly, so it will disappear forever? Do I even need a neutral switch?

um. first check the code. it might be a different code.

if it turns out to be the same problem, you may want to check the wiring to the switch.

If you get the same code then just leave it like that. My car was the same so I just left it like that then it dissappeared after like a week. The light will turn off eventually so don't worry abou it.

If it's the same code, don't reset and just wait for it to turn off by itself.

^ well have you switched out the sensor yet? if not, start with that and make sure all your connections are connected properly.
