if my 240sx had a face... id break its nose HELP!

my car ran FINE before i got it tuned.. and after we got the AFRs pretty much dialed in, i went to up the boost with my HKS EVC6 boost controller... it was set at 16.6, and i bumped it up to 18 psi...


i made the pull, and the boost wouldnt go past 15 psi = 330 whp


then i bumped it to 20 psi, and the boost wouldnt go past 12 psi = 290 whp




so i unplugged my WG to see if it was the diaphram... and everything was fine..


so i thought surely me vacc source for the EBC was crappy ( located on the hot pipe) so i tied it into the source coming off the throttle body...


that seemed to do the trick...


so i made 1 good 3rd gear pull, and my engine started like hesitating, and i looked down and it was over boosting ( was set at 18 psi, and hit 22 psi)


then i let off.. and my turbo wont go into vaccume... have the electric guage and a manual guage for boost... both are reading like 1 psi of vaccum.. and my turbo wont spool fast... so wtf could that be?


has a HKS actuator kit, Garrett Gt2871R .86 that has about 4k miles on it



i unplugged the WG, and it still stays at 1 psi of vaccume

-where is your boost controller hook up to?

my boost guage is hooked up to a source coming off the intake mani


my boost soleniod is hooked up to my WG, source coming off my TB, and offcourse a vacc source for the boost reference unit..


and i dont think i have a leak anywhere...

how long have you been running the EVC?

my EVC 5 is pulling reference from the intake manifold, pressure from the hotpipe about 2in from the turbo.

Boost guage is t'd into the FPR vac line.

When i was having boost control problems with mine here's what i tried. Turn off the EVC, make sure the actuator is doing it's job first. with the EVC off you should get a solid boost reading. if you have problems still then start checking for couplers busted (may be torn but only leaking at Xpsi boost) check all your connections are snug (i've blown the vac line for my map sensor off the manifold, scared the crap outta me) if no problems then check all your evc connections and settings. (mine has a switch for swing type and poppet type wastegates don't work right unless he correct ones set) then recheck for leaks.

P.S. where are you tuning it at? I see your in NC, so am I

ya i kinda have same prob.

i ran like 18psi on the dyno then put my blow off valvue and other half of my exhaust on now i can only run on 16.2

it does sound very much like a vacuum problem, if you can take out your boost gauge (i know easier said than done) and remove all vacuum lines and hook up only your boost gauge to the engine (block off all the open fittings of course) then start the car, if it still isnt getting vacuum it might be the gauge or maybe the brake booster line or even the iacv or intake mani gasket, then if good vacuum exists start hooking stuff back up until you lose vacuum, whatever causes the loss is your problem. It would be easier if you just borrowed a vacuum gauge though or rented one from your local auto parts store.

no worries dude its probably something stupid and you will have one of those duh moments when its all over with, try the vacuum test i suggested with the boost gauge still in place and check your piping too

you got it backwards... BOV should be straight vacuum source,i.e. the front of the throttle body. Boost gauge should be on that FPR T.

though rereading your original post is it reading -01inhg at idle?

and yes I'm alive unsurprisingly enough... so's the car. after a long bout of hibernation. suprisingly though mines not holding the 20psi I want it too either. similar setup like I said. HKS actuator set to 10psi low boost is at 15psi. try to set 20 and I'm spiking up to 25 or so.

I really think your vacuum routing is the culprit there. switch it to the way I said and see if that doesn't fix that problem. whats it do while driving normally like that?

and where the freak is Zebulon? east of Raleigh? i swear i've seen signs for it but I don't remember where it is.

yeah i'm in high point NC.

yeah i'm gonna have to go with vacuum leak somewhere. like I said reroute those lines see if that helps for starters.

EVC still uses three lines right? one to the actuator, one sees vaccum from the manifold one sees pressure from the piping. pull out the manual make sure you got them going in the right directions. all the lines for that evc should be as short as possible. make sure you didn't forget to cap off any of the fittings coming off the TB or anywhere. ziptie those hoses on if you have too. it really does sound like your vacuum set up is way off.

I'm still just trying to get a visual of what you got going on there. did you triple check for vacuum leaks? make sure everything is plugged up or sealed off?

those little vacuum filters on the evc, did you have one on your bov before when it wasnt working? I used to have one on my ssqv but it never worked with it installed so i took it out, also wherever your bov was connected before when it stopped working seems to be the leak if you just changed it and it works. Remember it only takes a pinhole to ruin your day with vacuum leaks. I wonder if you blew the intake mani gasket when you overboosted, but not likely. have you used carb cleaner to test for vac leaks?

holy crap I forget what a mess this setup is. Ok wheres the line coming off the hotpipe going too?

the t by the firewall with the L in it going?

and the T off the FPR going?

I think when you rearranged things you crossed a line somewhere. and if i remember the EVC instructions correctly the module in the engine bay should be turned so all the lines face UP.

what i did do today is make a vacuum tester out of a spare boost guage..


i hooked it up to the bov dead source and got about 7 psi off vacuum under idle..

the bov also shared the same source as both guages
so a line ran from that tee allll the way down the firewall and into the cab..

well AT tee near the intake mani i got 7psi of vacc... AT the end of the line that was going to my other guages i got 15 psi of vacuum... soo the problem resides somewhere in the dash going to the boost guage, and boost referance for the EVC6
