Just installed ARP long studs on my S13, front and rear. I've got some regular acorn-type steel lug nuts, narrow ones that'll fit the wells on aftermarket wheels.

HOWEVER, I'd like to get some of the longer-style lug nuts to cover more of the stud. They have to be 12x1.5 to match the threads on the ARP studs. There are plenty of offerings, I know, but most of them are lightweight aluminum blingtastic lug nuts; what I really want is a set that I can use an impact wrench on.

Any recommendations?

why use an impact wrench for lug nuts period tho? for the likeliness of crossthreading it, would you be better off putting them on manually (initially)? and than you can zap them on w/ an impact.

If your answer is yes to the above, aluminum's will work jsut fine

I always thread them on a few turns by hand, then turn them on with the impact. That goes without saying.

It's the removal that counts - after they've been properly torqued, and driven around for a while, I like to be able to jack the car up and take the impact gun and pull them straight off, without needing to use a breaker bar before jacking the car up.

Impact = the devil.

But any of the steel lug nuts should be fine, acorn, tuner, whatever style you choose, just know if you use a key with the nuts the impact will ruin it. Aluminum of any kind is too soft for even a little impact use IMO.

Yup

Impact saves time sure...but eh, like maybe a minute or two

I think better to just do it the old fashioned way with hand + torque wrench if you want aluminum

agreed, do it the old fashion way with a torque wrench, you wont snap the studs, and you know they are on good, you dont want somethinglike the rx-7 ^^ happening to you

That FD had lug nuts on it with the wrong threads (according to several other locations where I've seen that same vid) for the studs. Yes, he used an impact, but that pretty much had nothing to do with the failure in the vid.

Guys, I only use the impact to snug the lugs up to the wheel. Then the car goes back on the ground and I get out the torque wrench and tighten each nut to the proper value, in the proper order. I am no stranger to the right way to do these things and honestly I don't see what the aversion is to using an impact gun; I've been doing it this way for years with NO problems of any kind.

So, back to the original question, does anyone know of longer, open-ended lug nuts that are impact-rated?

If that's all you do, buy a battery powered impact. There's no where near enough torque in those to damage anything.

I had a wrong thread lug nut sold to me by American Tire. Broke the stud. Had to have it replaced. $100+ up the rear end...

Still i don't see why you would need to use the impact, unless it's for a race or something.
