240sx overpriced?

I wanted to know if my logic is flawed, but it seems as if every 240sx I come across is grossly overpriced. I see s13's with 130k+, stock, and in FAIR condition looking for 4k. Is it just me or does depreciation not have its toll on the 240sx. If anything, it seems as if they've appreciated since my initial interest in purchasing one three years ago.

And the S14's that I'm predominately interested in are going for way above blue book, with extremely high miles 150k +.

Or do you guys consider the 240 to be a collectors car already?

Well, up here in new england (says your in NY), they're not very popular from what i've seen. It took me over 4 months just to find one in VT and it was junk. It was about a year when i got super lucky and found this one, it's definitely not from around here (no rust at all) but that's besides the point.
Seeing as there aren't many around the price can be higher, but if you go down south (try cities on craigslist that are as far away as you would want to go) they become cheaper.
Good luck

Its the drift tax from the hype of those homo ass movies like F&F 3 have brought... Fanboys will pay outrageous prices so people will charge outrageous prices..

Supply and demand.. when the demand of a resource goes up and that resource is limited (as everything on earth is) then subsequently the price will rise respectively.

Not only that but the S chassis are great cars!

If you want to find a deal on a 240sx it's not going to come from some dude that bought one to flip. Find one that is owned by someone older and you can get some good deals.

When I started looking about 4 years ago Kouki's were in the $10k-15k range down here...it was ridiculous. Still some found some low mileage ones in mint condition for under $7k.

Just got to be willing to wait for the right deal.

A lot are being listed like many houses out there are. They throw it up at a very high price not really looking to sell, but if someone wants to pay that price they will...

Yeah, same thing is los angeles, the s14 was very expensive a few years ago. I think s14's have dropped recently and s13's have gotten more expensive, not totally sure why. I bet a lot of people on this forum bought this car because of "the media". Hell, if it weren't for grand turismo, I never would have fell in love with the s13, I thought they were lame when they first came out, but I didn't know anything about it's potential. All I wanted growing up was an FC rx7.

240sx weren't even prominent in the movie; that makes no sense. supply and demand yes, that movie no.

like john said hatchi's are waay more than our cars for even older cars, ours too will soon be the same.

actually guy, I think what he means is that drifting is prominent in F&F 3, and the majority of the people with FF platform who want to start drifting and want to buy FR cars choose 240's, so yes, I'd say movies like that did effect the 240sx market.

Thumbs down

240sx are hard to find. ive had countless people come up to me at fast food places and gas stations asking if ill flat out trade or sell the car.

kinda sucks that in five years there wont be many 240sx that are intact and on the market. this is probably why prices are holding steady and perhaps increasing.

supply and demand sucks.

Well some douche bags are getting bored of their CiviCs so they're switching to the S chassis. That's why so many have been getting stolen lately. Now that drifting is getting popular so are these FRs. Its not like kids won't pay 4k for an S13 anyway.

That's my opinion at least. I just hate CiviC drivers so much.

I honestly feel that your attitude stinks, granted I gave you no positive or negative feedback concerning your post. Honestly whats so wrong about civic drivers?

Please dont classify the honda community with "ricers" who jumped on the rice jock of the nissan crowd.

Since attaining my first nissan after putting it off for 10 years, most of the popular threads concern how the new trend is bosuku (I have yet to see one bosoku civic), stretched tires, color matched, or theme matching zip ties, half assed done engine swaps, unpainted aero, etc.

I have seen a GRANDIOSE amount of what you consider "riceboy civic" behavior being exhibited through the nissan crowd, tons of people "drifting" in the streets, strobe light's etc.

Every car group of enthusiasts have their own swag, deal with it. That's the kind of non progressive attitude the automotive culture doesn't need regardless of whatever elitist attitude you have because "you got your nissan first"

Finding an import in general that hasn't been SEVERELY raped by it's previous owner is godamned near impossible, and on top of the ridiculous "drift tax" that we have to pay to transgress into a different branch of the sport or lifestyle/culture or whatever you want to call it.

And on top of that to have people who are non encouraging about other people getting into the sport and hobby you love doesn't make it any better.

It's bad enough that when we try to search for information on these cars to fix minor things you have 10 dicks ready to jump into a thread saying "SEARCH" without double checking the shit they forward to you to see that sites that used to have FAQ's and shit up are all unregistered domains like the ss14 domain.

I come from the "honda" crowd and I wanted a rwd platform to work on since I only had experience with fwd and I want to try something new, and my budget really doesn't entail the 4WD market since those are all 30 thousand plus dollar expenditures. I love the body style and the culture that comes along with it and hope to build just as nice as a vehicle as my civic and give back to the community with how to's with "PICTURES" and lend a helping hand to other people fortunate enough to join our racing culture.

In closing, please don't be a fucking prick, in short is all i'm asking.

Thanks,

Wayne

Sigh. Another example of why the media sucks. Then again, I wouldn't mind flying out 3000 miles to buy a 240 and drive it back to New York.

I don't have anything against civic drivers, or people that modify civics. It's just the ones that are ricers. You'll notice that ricers are now taking on motorcycles, and we call them squids.

The north west just fucks up cars so theres probably becoming fewer and fewer up there. Just pick one up down here. It will be worth the trip to save all the money plus you wont really have to worry about rust. Also i got mine for $2,000 and all it needed was a new battery.

Where have you been for the past year?

This is old news.

Check out the "super low mileage" red hatch going for $9,000...fully stock.

yeh. it's pretty stupid how people would actually pay 9 grand for a stock "great drift car" hatch. so that's why there are sellers who post up their prices at the "drifter market value," knowing that someone will be willing to pay up.

just wait until a good deal comes your way.

my experience was calling a place n VA to try to get one with 150k for about 6k, and I made the mistake of stating the actual worth of a 95 S14 as stated from my research (which is only about 4k for a mint one). and boy did he tear into me, stating, ''well if that's the case, buy it from them!''I learned my lesson, never buy from a dealor lol... but seriously it is supply and demand. every 240sx was built in Kyushu Japan, making them truly Imported.plus the fact that they were discontinued 10yrs back in th U.S
