Mobil 1 10W-30 when it's warm, 5W-30 in the winter. Mobil 1 or K&N oil filters.

The best depends on several variables. How do you drive, milage, what has it been getting.

My car has been fed Mobil 1 since it was 1000 miles old. It's only got 70k miles on it and it gets run hard at the track on occasion. I feel mobil 1 is worth it, if for nothing more than peice of mind. My gf's altima gets castrol gtx. It will never be more than a daily driver and provided it gets a good filter and regular oil changes, would probably never benefit from a better synthetic oil.

Valvoline 10w-30 Synthetic in these TX summers, and 5w/30 for the colder times. It's what I've always used, and will continue to use.

I like Mobil 1. Gonna try Redline sometime...Just never use Penzoil if you go above 3,000 miles. It breaks down faster than most other oils. At least other oils I've seen.

I use Mobil1 10w30 Synthetic in the summer/fall & Mobil1 5w30 Synthetic in the winter/spring. I change my oil every 3k miles, and I always use an OEM Nissan oil filter.

Oh--and never use Pennzoil oil or Fram oil filters--I'll try to find the Oil filter review webpage and post it in Tech--very, very informative.

I was under the impression that those of us who use synthetic (not synthetic blend, I mean Mobil 1 "supersyn" or the old Mobil 1 "tri-synthetic") oils didn't have to change our oil for at least 5,000 miles... and that doing so any earlier, other than for peace of mind, showed no real benefits.
Am I misinformed? ...

edit: I use mobil 1 supersyn 10W-30 for... well, I don't know how many miles, my odometer is broken. I think I change it every 3 - 4000 miles, though. That's with _frequent_ hard (track and safe-street) driving, though...

mobil 1 5w30 and mobil 1 filter in my blazer every 5,000 miles. even at 5,000 miles, the oil still has that amber color to it.

i used to work for a mobil quick lube place and they said you can change it every 5,000 (but tell the customer 3,000). and the mobil executives would come in every 9,000 miles to get their free mobil 1 oil change. they did mostly highway driving.

valvoline 10w30 in the 240sx because it's an oilholic. used to use mobil 1, but i'd have to get a second job if i kept using it in the 240sx.

That's just the habit I've gotten into w/ all of my cars. I had a Geo that I changed the oil in every 2k-2500 miles because it would be black by then. So, just for peace of mind, I kept doing that on the next 2 cars. I try to take extra special care of my S14, so I make sure she gets all of her maintenance early. I've had a lot of work done to her, so I'm just trying to take that extra step in babying her and keeping her very clean and well-lubed

If you guys are doing a lot of hard track events, you might want to consider changing more often than 3k...otherwise 5k on a synthetic for everyday driving works. Personally I've been using Mobil 1 synthetic 10w30 year round and K&N oil filters. I usually change my oil every 3k miles but some people would say that is overkill.

I'm considering trying out redline synthetic sometime in the near future and getting both mobil 1 and redline oils from my engine analyzed to compare. If I ever get around to doing that I'll post my results.

Finally found it. Had to go through quite a few floppies and CDs to find it due to having to copy favorites over when I reformatted. Here's the thread:

I used to use Mobil 1 10W-30 but have switched to 15W-50 to cut down on oil consumption and for better bearing protection. Some people say it's too thick, but it's supposed to be good down to 20 degrees F, which almost never happens around here. I imagine it costs a few HP and MPG in parasitic losses, but I can deal with that. Change it every 3000 with either a Mobil 1 or K&N filter. Redline supposedly makes good oil too, I just don't know a corner store around here that sells it. Their 10W-40 sounds like the best choice for most people.
