my friend told me that i cant use a car dolly for my car but i dont see why. the car is rwd. i should be able to put it in nutral and roll wit it. i told him it was only awd you need a trailer. just for clearification reasons im asking all of you guys. thanks

I towed my 240 with a tow dolly no problem. If your not totally sure you can take out the drive shaft (takes like 10minutes), then your 100% good to go hahah.

thats what he told me that i would have to take the drive shaft out but i had it towed before and it was fine. no roll back just a snatcher.

some people say its not a good idea to dolly a RWD car because it just puts wear and tear on your drivetrain, since its spinning the whole time (hence the removal of driveshaft advice)

other than that, its no harm done.

I have seen a car that popped into gear...not a good thing for him! was for me ! I got a car cheap with a blown trans!

Yeah, the whole argument is that it puts wear and tear on the drivetrain, and that it adds miles to your odometer. If you have a jack and jackstands to put the driveshaft back in on the other end, just do that.

i think its ok. when some bitch got my cvar towed for parking an inch into the red zone next to her driveway that was still being cemented and was not in working condition they charged me extra cause my car was to low and they had to use a dolly. everything still seems fine.

Towing wheels down will put no more wear on the drive train than just normal driving...if you have a manual transmission. Auto's use the engine to pump the fluid around to keep things lubricated. Tow that wheels down and it will kill it.
Manuals just have oil sloshing around to keep them lubricated so no damage should be incurred. If your really worried, jam something around the shifter so i caint accidentally pop into gear.

Whatever you do, DO NOT tow it backwards.

I got paranoid around these very same issues and towed an S13 with the front wheels down. The car will sway back and forth all the way down the freeway, it had even my 3/4 ton dualie swaying. I tied the steering wheel down and everything, no dice.

It takes 10 minutes to DC the driveshaft, if you are truly worried do that.

^You did not have the car on striaght then.

We have towed 6 S13s on tow dollys, and were with the rear wheels on the dolly and front on the ground. If its just a bit off from being even it will do that. We also leave the steering wheel in the locked position with the key out of the car. We stopped, moved the car a bit, and it was ok. We have towed them at 70-75 with no issues with a Chevy Colorado.

Only other problem we had was pulling a shell back that had bent rims and damaged suspension.

Everybody stop right now and read this. Wheels turning auto + engine off = heat = fire

Never ever tow the driving wheels of an auto car on the ground, even if it's in N. Doesn't matter.

Best way is a flatbed. Second best way is to pick up the front and disconnect the driveshaft if auto. Third and barely acceptable way is to pick up from the back, but this is not stable at high speed and long distance.

I used the full trailer from Uhaul. It's a few bucks more from the POS two wheel dolly thing they offer.
