3 quick questions on 5speed swap details
1. Do I need to buy manual tranny flywheel bolts?
2. Do I need to buy the large steel "gasket" that goes between the tranny and the block (from a 5 speed car) or can I use the one on my auto motor? 3. Is the 5 speed brake pedal necessary? Thanks Fred |

1. yes, manual tranny bolts are longer
2.not really, auto one would work. but i think the holes line up in different sections. but it will still work and fit. 3. no its not neccessary but only if you cut the brake padal. the auto one needs to be cut in order for the clutch pedal to fit. hope this helps. goodluck with the swap. |

2) You need the spacer/shield. Had a friend forget to install it when he rebuilt a motor and he swore he had crank walk cause the tranny input shaft was pushing on the crank.
But you really don't want road shit going into where the clutch is. Clutch and Flywheel get coated in crap, clutch slip.

Yes No. Cutting the pedal takes all of 7 minutes. Then you slip on the pedal cover and call it a day. If you replace the pedal you have to drop the steering column, unbolt everything, wrestle it out of there, wrestle the new one back in, then bolt everything back up, re-adjust your brake pedal, blah blah blah. Too much work.

Yep, you need that shield. Reusing the auto one does not cover the bottom of the manual trans completely. So you will have road debris flying into flywheel/clutch area. |
