s13 sr in s14 ALTERNATOR question
well i searched and didnt find too much info. my alternator doesnt seem to be charging, and i think it might be something else after doing some research. well under my fuse box my (blue 100 fuse) is blown! im pretty sure that must have something to do with it. if it does, how do i remove it?? and i had a black wire that looked like a ground coming from the lower 97 ka harness that looked like a ground that wasnt grounded either so i grounded it. anything else i should check for? i know its not the battery cuz when i take the power terminal off, the car turns off. so im sure something i did was wrong.

The S13 SR alternator has a large white wire and a large black wire, then a clip with a small white wire and a white/red striped wire. The S14 has a single connector for the large white wire, and you have to splice the white/red wire into your lower engine harness (on the S14 KA this wire was yellow). Then you ground the alternator body to the car body.
I haven't hooked up the smaller white wire, because the S14 KA didn't have another +12v wire, and I'm pretty sure my charging system is working fine without it... anyone who's done this swap a few times want to chime in?

My car was only charging sometimes so I got an s13 alternator from a friend and now it works fine. Theres a ground on the back, a wire that bolts to the back then the battery, and a 2 wire plug on the back. Grounds simple it just bolts from alternator to car, the bigger power wire was in a different location but it still bolted on fine, and the 2 wire plug plugged right in. Everything worked with no modifications.

Yeah if you get an S13 KA alternator and switch over the pulley, you can use the regular non-SR connections. The SR alternator has different plugs/setup.

I'm currently using a S13 SR (with the SR alternator) in my S14. I can do a writeup, just haven't had a lot of time lately. Still have to post my build thread and it's 50 or so pics. Give me a day or so.

Both KA and SR alternators have the same wiring. The 2pin plug may have different color/gauge wires, but it simply plugs right in to the socket on the unit. It's as simple as installing the old one, no matter what model/type you're using.
The black 10 gauge wire with a ring terminal is the ground, it bolts right to the fusebox anchor on S13s, behind the fusebox on the fender apron on S14s. On the alternator it bolts anywhere to the case, doesn't matter. There's a threaded hole for it but you can bolt it to the one of the nuts securing the two halves of the case also. That leaves the larger 8 gauge wire, the charging wire. It bolts to the stud on the unit sticking out with a plastic insulator, if the insulator is broken it will ground out and blow the main use. This then goes to the fusebox. The main 100A fuse in the S14 is bolted in, the block itself snaps out and then you can see the bolt on either side that secures it. There's plenty of discussion on this before.

ok so i got the fuse, grounded the 10 gauge ground, and removed the old 100a by removing the block and removed the insulator by removing the 12 nut. so now, the reason i first broke the insulator was because my 97 ka lower harness has a 8 gauge charging wire and the ring has two little tabs on the ring and it didnt really fit so i opened the little tabs hoping it would fit. so now to prevent that problem, do i modify the ring so it will fit nice and snug inside the insulator? or do i tighten it so it sits on top of the insulator? thanks

Modify if needed, all you want to do is make sure the lead does not touch the case. The tabs are to keep the lead from rotating when tightened but are not required. You probably man handled it too much, breaking the insulator and allowing the lead to rotate down into the unit. If you casn hold the lead without worry, cut the tabs off, or put a new ring on the lead without tabs. You can use a fuel rail spacer if you have one to replace the insulator, it's similar in size and will work fine. If not, get one off another alternator.
