Some of my friends are buying the Smart car. I see those things on the hwy haulin' ass lol. At this point with how gas is I'm either about to get a bike or get something small like you all are talking about (crx, civic, 323 anything over 30mpg).

Seriously, how the fuck is it that all these old compact cars see 40+ mpg, while all the brand new cars - that supposedly should have better engineering - are struggling to get 40? I see commercials for the new Corolla, 35 MPG HIGHWAY!!!!!!!! Uhh. My '88 Celica saw 40 on the daily, you must be doing something wrong.

Yep, it's all weight.

Older cars didn't have six airbags or as much noise dampening or a million other things that porky new cars have.


Additionally, for people really worried about conservation/enviro impact as well as the financial cost of fuel economy, it's important to note that an EG VX is a much more responsible choice than a Prius.

Yes they get the same mileage, but how much energy/materials are depleted and how many carbons are emitted in trying to BUILD one new Prius? A shit-ton. Compared to NONE for a used car that's already been on the road for 10 years.

Lightweight old cars rule.
