I don't know if anyone else is following this but I find it to be quite entertaining. All the automakers coming out with supercars are battling it out on the Nürburgring (Nordschleife).

So here's what has happened so far:

Nissan pits the GTR against the Porsche 911 Turbo (997) during testing to beat its record time of 7:40. They squeeze out 7:38. (Note the Corvette C6 Z06 did it in 7:42.99).

Round 1: GT-R vs. 911 Turbo at the 'Ring, advantage GT-R - Autoblog

Meanwhile a few weeks later the Pagani Zonda F sets a record of 7:27:82

It's just sad that a near $200,000 supercar that was designed for racing set it's sights on a car half it's price. What's wrong with domestics these days?

surely you aren't talking about the ZR1, which retails for $102,000? i could see where you'd think it's a $200,000 supercar, being as ill as it is.

i just watched the corvette onboard vid and honestly i feel scared. because the car looks so unsteady and twitchy...i mean, its fast, but its not smooth.

i've seen way worse...

the driver seems like he was completely in control.... possibly the best handling vette, thanks to the weight bias being more on the front now.

Thats what I'm saying.

I think its a good direction instead of focusing on top speed, or 0-60, or HP, 1/4 mile times...this is more interesting.

Anyways, the start/stop time and start/stop points are being argued so Garage419 has done a side by side comparison of the GTR and ZR1 with an independent timer.

This is the type of rivalry that will hopefully produce some badass cars, regardless of who wins.
