flat spots on brand new tires

i have 4 new tires on my s14. by new i mean less than 500 miles. the other night i was coming home from work, dog in the road, locked up all 4's. damn i miss abs. i now have flat spots on my tires that turned a butter smooth ride into a constant thumping,. im just wondering if i was to do a few burnouts in my driveway, and than rotate tires, and do another burnout. would that help to even out the flat spots? or would it just wear down the already flat spots worse. i just need these tires to last me like a month till i get my plans under way. thanks, matt

Remember that if you're on an open diff, you may only "shave" one of the two rear tires... if they're directional, you may have to spray some water (or do something similar?) to get the other wheel (the one you couldn't manage to spin) to 'shave'. If you have non-directional tires, you can swap 'em around as you please... just make sure they all get 'shaved'.
If you have an LSD (or even VLSD) you won't have to rotate the tires as much.

thats a silly statement.. how good a tire is, does not determine whether or not it will flat spot if you lock up the tires.. many VERY expensive tires will be more prone to flat spotting because of softer compounds.

you need better brake control man....

but, do the front tires first if you're gonna do it the burnout way. the rears might not be anywhere near as bad as the fronts. less weight over them during the ordeal.

unless you wear your tires way down your flat spots wont go away. they will thump there and wear wrong for a long time, burnout wont help much and you have no lsd. you will have one thumping tire that is worn out and probably a ticket as well. anyone willing to argue consider this, a tire that is unbalanced will not become round because it did not start out round. a flat spotted tire is unbalanced or out of round

"Dunlop something" doesn't help too much. I take it they're all season tires, then? relatively cheap? ... kind of strange that a hard compound tire like that would flatspot so easily.

That said, devious- point taken, but wouldn't you agree that burning each tire out would make it slightly more bearable, not to mention is a cheaper alternative to 4 new tires. ($$$!!!)

sorry, dunlop something is all i can remember. i didnt feel like grabbing a flashlight and running outside in the rain to find the exact model number.

what i was trying to say is basically this " i have flat spots on all 4 tires, i want to remove flat sopts so tires will last a month. will doing a few burnouts, than rotating tires. remove the flat spots, or help make flat spots worse?"

i think i have my answer but figure this: assume i took .020'' of the tread, compared to the rest of the tread. i was just assuming it would be like turning something on a laithe, only the highest points are affected( highest points being the majority of the tire not affected by the flat spot. would doing a burnout resemble the laithe effect? or would other forces such as suspension, make a difference?

basically, you cant get rid of the flat spots, you would be better off just buying new tires, even though they are only for a month, you screwed up, all be it not on purpose, and u ruined brand new tires, they are pretty much shot, there is no half assed way around it, just curious, how fast were u going, and how large are the flat spots?

My bet is that they are pretty big flat spots.. I have locked down my brakes several times, and have never got a flat sport large enough for me to get a thumping while driving.

normally they shave racing slicks, i would think the gaps in the tread would creat a problem

i did the same thing, but only the fronts locked up. took a bing chunk of tire out. i went back and lied to the place i bought them from but they would not replace it for free. go back to where you got the tires, tell them what happened and they will probably pro-rate them. they wanted to charge me $60 after i just paid $80 for a warranty on all 4's. and they didnt want to cover it cause it wasnt a "road hazard" i said screw you, and left. im not paying for new tires after paying for new tires, then a $80 warranty. !@#K that. deal with it. i did.

damn I've locked up my bfg touring t/a's for long periods of time, and the ****ty ass coopers or whatever was on there before I used to just have fun with, and I've never had a flatspot big enough to cause any problems at all.
