Today I made a ram air/cai type thingy for my car
Today I was a little bored, so I decided to attempt to duct some cold air to my intake with an old shop vac hose laying around the garage.
pics are here I will try to explain what I did, and link some pics here is my 240 and my other car, the shop vac hose is laying on the engine. ![]() here is where I stuck the hose through ![]() the hose went under the headlight, and into the radiator area ![]() I zip tied it to a bolt hole in the bumper to hold it straight ![]() then I stuck it right under the filter ![]() DISCLAIMER: I dont pretend this adds 15 hp, or even as much power as a CAI, but why not try, its free Also, please disregard how filthy my car is ![]() your thoughts and comments are appreciated.

You need to filter it better. From what I saw in the pic, it looks like the filter is just in the open with the pipe sorta aimed toward it. Thats gonna skrew up your engine.
EDIT: Nevermind, pay no attention to this post, I see how you filtered it now. It's late, i'm going to bed. Last edited by RedlineRacer; 03-23-2003 at 10:36 PM.. |

I did the same thing on my 93. Except that on the 91-93's the bumper has a hole with a plastic grill on it under the turn signal lens. Mine doesn't have as many bends or as much length to travel than yours. And it sits right under my Injen filter. I can't say it made a big difference, it didn't hurt though.

Yeah, I took it out for a good test drive today and I cant say that the good old ass dyno can tell the difference. Hopefully I can at least get some better highway gas milage on my trips to school and back home. Unfortunately I dont have a baseline number for that so I will never be able to tell. But as Luke said, cant hurt.
rancid- yeah, my dune buggy is a helluva lot nicer than the 240 right now, too bad its the ultimate ricer ![]()

I would put the bottom of the filter back on, and route the hose into the filter case some how.. say, use the opening that the y pipe was atttached too. Seal it. that way you could actually force some air in there.
ALSO.. get something like a brake duct flange to act as a funnel for the air: ![]() Good luck! and have fun. It's always good to see people trying things with their cars!

your car looks exactly like my car except mine is worst.. it looks liek something blew up in my engine bay and its all dusty and rusty in there.. the rest of the car is dirty as hell too..
im just goin to pressure wash the engine bay once i get the motor out, sand it, prep it , and paint it black again. |

![]() too many bends. by the time the air goes in one way and out the other..it wont be flowing as hard to make a difference. but i can give props to the work that was involved haha

sykikchimp- That was exactly what I had in mind when I thought this up. This is just the halfassed outcome. My plan was to cut a large hole in the bumper, mount a funnel behind it, and and connect that to the bottom half of my airbox that was sealed except for the hose from the bumper.
where did you find that brake duct flange, and how much do they run? That looks perfect. Also, I didnt want to hack up my airbox in case I wanted to return it to stock for autocross this summer, so does anyone have the bottom half of thier airbox just lying around ![]() -Matt

Actually I do. I might be able to send it to you if you could pay for shipping.

you can get brake ducts at any online race store..
like ioportracing.com or ogracing.com etc.. cutting holes in the airbox would kick you out of stock class??
