OK ok, i might get flamed for doing this but who cares

My Friend and I lack very much cash but love having our cars handle nice, right. My friend (Owner of a 84 Toyota Supra ) Has the access to lots of metals and piping, ect ect, and a blow tourch.

He told me it would take him about 2 hour or less to make some Strut tower bars, which isent to bad, seeing as i would be paying nothing for them. He always said he could easly make sway bars.

Is this a good idea, have any of you ever done this??

you fear you may get flamed? for what? being broke as the rest of us? heck no. strut braces woould probably be the easiest to make, no real geometry involved. good luck. i once resurfaced my rotors on my civic on a cnc machine. worst case, doesnt work. best case it works great, everyone on zilvia buys them, branch out, start a business and retire. good luck

I have seen a picture of a guys a while ago that made his own strut bar. It was just a metal tube. I have the picture in word but not a good place to host it but here is the dialogue that was in the post

"Its really easy, basically just like the front one if you can see in the pics, but easier. i just used a 3/4 piece of aluminum conduot piping from a hardaware store. its like $2 for 10ft. then i cut it to about the right length to fit from the 2 inside bolts on the struts in the back. then i flattened one end down and drilled a hole through and put it on one of the studs then marked exactly where the other was. then i flattened the other side and drilled a hole and put it on. i might of had to bend the pipe just a bit to fit in the back but im not sure. you need to take out the back panal above your seat to get to the strut bolts. also put down the back seat. you have to cut out or bend a little metal for the strut to go straight across, you will see what i mean if you look at it. the metal is real thin i just used some snips and cut it, you only have to cut or bend 2or3 inches of it, it is not structual or anything and you cant see it. and if you want you can polish the bar when you are done with steel whool and mothers polish, i did my front but not the back because you cant really see the rear one. let me know if you have any more ?'s ill try to take some pics of it up close."

Homemade strut bars are easy if you can weld, my friend made a set for his Eclipse. He even made a quick disconnect for the rear bar so he could still fully use the hatch.

Someone on Freshalloy recently showed how they made their own copy of the Nismo Power Brace by welding a piece of square tube between the stock tc rod brackets.

Another fun project would be a camera mount, though that's not really possible with the one-piece S13 seats... and if you don't have a video camera it's pointless anyway, heh.

WOW, thats a GREAT idea, im doing that 2marrow, and maybe a sway bar and a strut tower bar, and i get all the metal stuff for free. HEHE YAY. ANd i could make a mount, i have a camera, or atleast my friend does

Here is picture using Microsoft Word

I guess save it to your computer and then open it in Microsoft Word not Editpad. At least thats what my computer tries to open it with. I saved it as a .txt in Word so it should work hopefully

if you want to get the picture OUT of Word...goto "Save as" and select ".html" (what this does is seperate each part of the document into seperate files for web use) Then look where u saved it (this will create it's own folder by the same name) and the pictures will be saved in .gif format. Then just upload them to zilvia

sway bar?? hmm.... somehow that idea doesn't sound so great.

but, adjustable tie rods (especially in the rear) wouldn't be too hard to make. I'm waiting for a friend to get his welder so I can start hacking up some adjustable links.

Yeah syco3d I tried that but couldnt figure it out so I said screw it. I tried saving it as a gif and jpg and then it wouldnt work So I gave up. I mean if no one can see it I could try to upload it to imagestation or something. Just let me know

Yea we thought twice about sway bars, then said no

And how would you go about making adjustrable tie rods?
Do you have blue prints on how to make them?

Also thanks for the pic of the sway bar, it doesnt even look homemade, HEHEHE

I might use my friends nismo strut tower bar as a blue print, humm.
