An alignment wont help. If there is play in the steering wheel its either the FLCA ball joints shifting around or the tie rod ends shifting around on the spindle. Everything else is directly connected, unless his tires are sloshing around.

toe will make your car feel slooppy and handle like shit
if it happend AFTER he did his coilover change over (as it sounds like it is)
and he HASNT gotten an aligmnet yet

get alignment and go from there.
