![]() ![]() I know Autoimaging used to sell these. I've asked them the question too, but I thought I could ask it here too. Do any of you know the manufacturer of these headlights? Please don't start telling me clearcorners does the modification because I'm too far from California to bring my car and get the modification done. ![]() I am really into them...

Forget it. Autoimaging just told me that the business went bankrupt. No way to get these.
![]() The company was All Round.

Actually, I can't get them because Clearcorners only install their kits. They don't want to ship them and going to California is not an option for me.
![]() And the company was All Round, not ABflug.

If you dont want to pay for clear corner's, and if you arent a whore to JDM bling, dont spend all that cash, just make your own. you need lights:
http://www.susquehanna.com/susq/hella/headlamp.htm#90mm and some sort of bracket like to hold the lights and let you align them something like this: (yes I know those are non pop ups, its just a general idea) http://www.midtennmiata.com/round_headlights.htm then all you need to do is shorten the rod on your headlights and you have some pimp headlights for a fraction of the cost This was the first thing I wanted to do to the 240, because its stock lighting sucked, but opted instead for some $40 foglights cause im poor -Matt

I don't think it would be as simple as shortenning the popup rod. Figure with a shorter rod, the light would be forced down further when it's closed. Will the motors stop pulling on their own or will they need to be relocated?
Something one of us DIYers might want to poke around at :-)

Thanks a lot! I'll look into it. The other option is to install the Pivot headlight controller to get them the height you want. boro240: I hope they still have them in stock!!! Thanks a lot to you too! ![]()

on sale for $675! what a deal!
![]() The lights and connectors cost $250, for if it was my money(and its not, I only have like 200 in my savings account) I would put the other $425 towards some R&D to make these things fit. sheet metal isnt that expensive. ![]() -Matt

Well, thanks to Rennen, I ordered 2 hi beams and 2 low-beams and I ordered the Pivot Headlight controller. I'm getting it done myself. I'll start the project as soon as I get them. I'll keep you all posted!

Good decision, now you can get new tires or something with all the money you saved.
I'm not entirely convinced that the pivot controller will be stable enough for headlights. I had my headlights "sleepy" for a while by the fuse pull method, and the passenger side one would bounce around in 70mph wind. Keep us updated on your progress and feel free to bounce some ideas off me. Gimme a while and I will find all the links from when I was going to attempt this. Search freshalloy, Mike from Clearcorners gave alot of good info on a bunch of threads. -Matt

I put the rolling eyes because he said that he wishes that someone would make them again when they do make them. The other rollin eyes was for it being so damn much and thinking of Halo driving down to get it done and STILL paying that much. I didn't mean anything about the quality of their products. I'm sure for the price they are VERY GOOD. But you still have to admit that they are expensive. I'm also sure that the ppl are good or they could not keep customers. No need to get your panties in a bunch dousan36.
![]() ![]() EDIT: Oh...and I am also thinking of actually buying those and a CF hood and stuff instead of getting a s15 front end. ![]() |

Rennen, thank you for posting those links.
My 240sx is the second car I've had with pop-up lights and I've been looking for a lowcost DIY project to place stationary lights in the "sockets". I found the eastbear conversion pretty quick when I started searching around. The conversions were pretty much spot on for what I was looking for except for two things 1) Price tag, ouch 2) No cover (mind you covers are in the works now) I had/have no preference as to whether the lights were low profile rectangles or two globes I just wanted to be able to have accurate beams, adequate lighting (high and lows), and covers to reduce drag/protect the lights. I have been fooling around with plans on getting a metal "frame" fabricated to hold the lights however I couldn't find any good photo's/choices of lights to buy or at least measure. The one thing now that is holding me up is a way to cover the lights that sits relatively flush with the body and doesnt look ghetto as hell. Below is the diagram in progress (very similar to the miata conversion) ![]() And a better idea of what I'm stuck at is here ![]() The problem isn't how to attach the plexi (theres several options and the cleanest by far would be to make a "lip/groove" underneath the brown edges. The problem is at the base/front of the light where it is curved, I can't think of a way outside of fiberglass to make a smooth curved shape that could come up and over. I realize this is a lot of typing etc and these are really just ideas in my head, if they're muddled or hard to understand feel free to ask me questions as I could really use some help here. The benefit is that if one of us succeeds in making a DIY base for these lights and simply posts an accurate BP (blueprint) any of us could go to a local machine shop (or tech school if your a real cheap bastige) and have the bracket/frame manafactuared pretty easily. I look forward to the feedback |

Very good plan radhaz.
The maita place makes 2 low end kits that dont have the hella projectors. http://www.midtennmiata.com/glow_headlights.htm and http://www.midtennmiata.com/square_headlights.htm If you look at those pages you will notice that their kit isnt exactly water tight, it is open on the sides ![]() The way they attach thiers is to run weatherstripping lookin stuff along 2 of the edges and have dowel rods inserted in the weather stripping, then the dowels are attached to the headlight bracket ![]() you can see where they attach here ![]() Hope this helps I'm personally not a big fan of the flush headlights on a 240 or I might have tried this by now with some aux driving lights Edit: they address alot of these points on thier FAQ http://www.midtennmiata.com/faq.htm If I were you I would shoot them an email and say you are attempting a similar kit for the 240SX and see if they have any advice [email protected] -Matt

/smacks self in forehead...
Once again thanks rennen, I can't believe I didn't search a little more on that guys site. There was a lot of great info to be had, particularly in how simple there designs are. I'm going to take your advice and drop him a line and try to get some info on the best way to get the acrylic cut/shaped to fit, and adhered to the enclosure. Admittedly I like the output of those hella's; however, I think I will try the rectangles out first and if the first project doesn't prove too daunting perhaps I will springboard on to do the hellas later. Regardless I'll keep you guys posted when I get more info on this/start the project depending on cost I may start this next weekend. |
