exedy stage 2 softer clutch pedal?

Okay when i first installed the clutch the pedal was much more stiffer and then after about 270 miles into the break in, my clutch pedal seems to develop a bit more play and just doesn't seem as stiff. What maybe the cause of this? A crapped out slave cylinder? I didn't bleed the system because i did it like 6 months ago with my old clutch. Any help will be great!

actually, i have to say that I had a stage 1 exedy in my car before, and it was soo stiff, but it burnt up, so i got the stage two, had in installed by marco @ sr20store, and went to push it down expecting it to be heavier but, its actually way more easy to push down. how ever it's also more like either on or off style of engagement.

yeah thats what i feel too and getting use to the on/off engagement. hmm maybe its because its finally starting to break in and becoming more softer. I think i should bleed the system anyways just in case.

Just looked under the car and theres a bit of fluid leaking from the slave where the brake line connects to. So im just gonna buy a new slave and then bleed the system. thanks for the help!

I Have the same clutch and I put it in about 3000 kms ago. And I kind of thought the same thing. Around the end of the break in period It seemed a little softer and more play like you said. And it wasnt as grabby, like the clutch being either in our out like when i first put it in.
But who knows maybe its just because Im used to the clutch and im not as jumpy with it.

You've probably gotten used to it. When I drive my truck around for a couple of days and then switch back to my s13 I'm like holy shit that's stiff.

oh good news then! yeah i probably just got use to it. Coming from a pos xtd clutch that slipped like no other is a dramatic change at first. The pedal was so soft it fellt like i was driving in a arcade game and usually my right foot (gas pedal) would get tired before the left one during traffic lol. Iono but it seems as though the pedal hardens once it warms up?

PEOPLE:

The original slave and master weren't designed with a heavy pressure plate in mind. If you don't at least replace your old ones with new components when you changed the clutch then you probably blew one or both of them out. Think a little brake fluid on the boot of the slave is telling you much????

A Pressure plate doesn't suddenly change spring rate and will never change the way it feels outside of when the disk wears out. If it feels fucked up there's something wrong in the hydraulic system. After almost 2 years I've gotten accustomed to my stage-2 but I wouldn't call it "soft," Nor has it ever changed the way it felt in a way that i could write off as merely my leg getting stronger.

FWIW I used to own an Autozone master cylinder which are only rebuilt cores. A couple weeks after using it with my stage-2 the engagement point started floating all over the place and re-bleeding it never helped. I have since installed a new Tokico master and haven't had a problem. If I ever do again, I'm going to fab in a Wilwood master. also my slave cylinder is from Napa.

I didn't go from a stock clutch to the exedy stage 2. I went from an rps max street to an exedy stage 2, and there's is a huge difference in pedal feel. Let me explain... softer, no feedback. With the RPS max street clutch i could find the engagement point on the way down, On the Exedy, I had to find the engagement point on the way up. Makes you look like a noob, when it suddenly grabs. I have no leaks, and an agency power master to slave line.

My fiance, can even tell the difference, although she did do some kicking on the tranny prior to her test.

Yeah I don't like my stage-2 very much either.

I've always been an advocate for Exedy, since they make ACT for chrissakes but they definitely did it wrong when designing the stage-2.

The engagement point is well above where the 'hump' in pedal feedback is which always, always fucks me up.

Plus I don't even have 300whp or a 2-way diff anymore and if I dump the clutch it slips most of the time.

no, problem Not solved, actually. Adjusting the pushrod in the CMC will only change where the clutch engages, it will not change the PP spring rate or move where the "hump" is in pedal feedback, thus no matter where I have the engagement set (unless it's right on the floor, which I don't want) It's going to fuck with me unless I make an effort to remind myself the clutch grabs later than my foot thinks it will. By "always, always" I didn't literally mean "Always." I was just exaggerating about how it fucks with me more than I wish it would when i'm zoned out.

And what's this "bleed" nonsense you're talking about? How can getting blood on the clutch fix either of our problems?

I think i know the problem, when i installed the clutch everything felt fine and normal. Then a few days or so later my clutch line on the slave loosened and leaked which caused air to get trapped. I went to bleed the clutch and air bubbles were still visible after a bleeding for a few minutes but eventually gave up since i thought it was maybe the master cylinder. Its definately air stuck in side as result because on cold starts the engagement is close to the floor and when it warms up the engagement gets higher and higher which is a sign of air trapped in the lines or slave. Im gonna retry bleeding a much better job right away and should be good to go. Hope this clears out for some ppl experimenting my problem.
