I just completed the same swap about 2mos ago. The only thing That I can think of is the pinion gear on the vss. Did your vss come with this already? From what I know Is that the s14 vss into the s13 tranny needs minor modification to work. Is the speed sensor metal or plastic? How do you know for certain that you have an s14 vss?

its a metal sensor with a red plastic wheel. i had to put the old gear on the new vss. but ive been told that the gear only varied for wheels size. im not gunna b/s and say its the right vss cuz you never know what u get from the parts store but i bought a 95' manual vss......would it be possible that i need to buy a 95' auto vss.

im also runing the auto trans ecu

^ I think you got an s13 one. I believe the s14 has a plastic housing.

Bingo. You should have searched.

Aluminum housing with long wire lead = S13
Black plastic housing with direct plug in = S14

There's no way to confuse them unless you're blind and have no fingers.

This is incorrect. The sensors swap right in, either one, because the tail housing is the exact same from 89-98, on KA, SR, and CA.

I bought one from napa auto parts and it was the s13 one. Apparently their info is wrong their computer says that the 1995 m/t vss is the same as s13 (same part number). Be careful and don't get fooled again. I am trying to order the correct one right now. Good luck!

FYI, I've scoured several online parts sites and called a few places just out of curiosity, no one makes an aftermarket replacement S14 VSS. They all show to carry one up to 1995 but list the S13 unit. After 1995 there's no application.

Dealer or salvage yard only part.

Shall I go off on you then anyway?

Remember the new VSS at the dealer won't have the gear, it's a separate part.
