HELP!!! 96 Auto trans stuck in park

so this morning i had to move my car for someone and my car wouldnt leave park... i believe its the shift lock because the shift button on the side wont go in all the way to release the shift lock ...

any help please???

Pull the console and release the lock by depressing the solenoid manually. Then find the blown fuse in the car or remove the solenoid completely.

never had an auto 240...but it might be a break censor...the brake petal censor broke in my old neon and it wouldn't leave park...

just my 2 cents

both above responses are correct, you may want to check the brake switch because it triggers the release for the shift lock solenoid. that, the wiring, or the solenoid may be bad. it can be removed, but its there for a reason and a good one - you dont want to be able to shift out of park without using the brake. i removed mine once, i got myself into a couple interesting situations.



then i swapped to a proper manual and said fuck that shit.
