oil feed restrictor question...
I'm minutes away from dropping the motor back in and came across one of my last "loose ends". Since I'm switching up my turbo setup (Disco Potato -> 20G) and reusing my SS lines, I've got to change the restrictor to accommodate the new journal bearing turbo; as apposed to the BB disco potato. I called Forced Performance this morning and after presenting the same question, I was told to completely eliminate the restrictor all together... After some more thought, I got to thinking... I had to use a restrictor for the T25 on my old KA-T, but then again I was taking my oil supply from the oil pressure sensor on the other side of the block. That was a long time ago and now we're talking about an SR20.
Are any of you guys using an unrestricted oil feed line on your journal bearing turbos? Come to think of it, does the stock T25 even have a restrictor?

stock t25 lines dont have a restrictor to my knowledge, but ive been running a -4 unrestricted on a t25 for over a year and no problems. I wouldnt go with anything above that though, if anything a -3 would be gravy without a restrictor.

my oil feed line is a -4. but so was the one on my old KA-T setup. does the factory oil outlet port on the SR see less pressure than the oil filter block?
I'm curious now about why I ended up using one on my KA-T

Stock T-25 uses a restrictor, the restrictor is built into the bajo bolt on the oil feed line on the block.
well if the manufacturer says its not needed I guess it would be fine then

I ran a .063" restrictor on my t3/t4 with -4an lines (ka-t, though). ATP sells them, and JGS does too. JGS says if the turbo is getting more than 50psi of oil pressure it needs to be restricted.

^^ funny thing you say that. I got in touch with a fellow SR20 20g owner this morning and he said he has oil in his IC and piping and plans to use one now that the motor is out.
back to square one. The one thing FP did say, was that they do NOT sell feed lines with restrictors and that the inline filter they do sell for the journal bearing turbo is .100"

lol, i guess you got your answer then. no harm in using a restrictor, imo.

yeah I've noticed TAKA sells them with their journal bearing line kits.

ATP turbo swears by using a restrictor period, whereas Phoenix Turbo in AZ stands behind not using one, no matter what the type of turbo. There's a lot of conflicting data but I always stick with using one and I've never seen a turbo go on anything I do for lack of oil/overheating.

I agree with you Russ. I do know when I did my KA-T way back when, the T25 was passing a lot of oil until I installed a restrictor.
I'm drilling my BB restrictor (.030") out to .063" and running that.
