Do you guys realize what this means that they debuted the Cube at LA!?!?!?!

All their other new cars are out of the way...

I think that means we should be hearing some SX news soon! Like JANUARY!

3) doesnt follow nissans current design trends and standards...looks WAY too much like an exotic car of the mid to late 90s

not trying to knock your posting...but a lot of people just dont seem to understand why alot of these photoshopped images of concept cars never make it to the light of day (even if theyre based from a design test made YEARS ago)
To comment on your comments:

1. it's really not all that low slung. it's slammed with massive wheels in that chop. if it had been drawn at a standard ride height with standard sized wheels/tires, it would look much less low slung.

2. what does the belt line have to do with modern safety standards? The door needs a side-impact beam. side air bags are usually installed in the headliner. what safety standard dictates that the belt line has to be high?

3. obviously it doesn't follow nissan's current styling trends, it follows inifniti's current styling trends, since it is a chop of the current g37 coupe. I don't see the connection to 90's exotic cars.

car is very low slung for a vehicle of modern times...outside of low volume pasta rockets...you dont really see production cars that are low slung like this at all anymore...even if the were 2 inches higher

the belt lines in doors have been raised much higher to accommodate higher and thicker door beams in modern cars...why do you think ALL cars now (with the exclusion of low volume vehicles like the lotus elise or anything in ferraris line up) have such tall doors compared to their 90s counterparts...some of it has to do with design standards as well...but...its mainly because safety standards since the 90s have gotten a lot more stringent and require much, much more reinforcement and protection in order to pass crash test ratings to allow the car into production

it really doesnt fit infinitis standards either...infiniti is a bit more exotic and luxurious looking than nissan now yes...but it doesnt adhere to ANYTHING built on the FM platform at all (given most of infinitis line up is using that chassis as its underpinnings)...the doors are WAY too small and the window/roof line is way too tall...it looks like someone used a S chassis roof line to photoshop this car together...the body lines of the car resemble the coupe that cadillac produces...and the front bumper is bit too "90s" for the car

were not getting worked up...theres just a lot of dis-information out there about cars and people always wonder "well why cant it look like (insert 90s vehicle name here) cause it looks like shit now"...people dont understand that MOST cars cannot resemble their heritage counterparts in most ways now just due to design and safety regulations and structures completely changing in the last 10-20 years

its a easy fix. just drop down the wheel well so it gives it a higher belt line.

Shafted. Info on next S chassis will probably wait until sales for the Z start in order to keep sales up. After all who would be SUPER crazy about the Z when there's a lighter, lower priced RWD car?

[Again just my opinion]

This is seriously lame. I' not going to Detroit now. That was the main reason i was going. That's 6 manufacturers that have pulled out just this year.

And no Dutch that wasn't the surprise he had in store for us. It was the rendering he was working on.

Dorki, what do we think now? I wonder when we'll hear anything now.

There was no concept or preproduction Altima coupe or 370z shown at any shows, i'd expect it will debut at LA next year and come to market 1st quarter 2010.

The "production" model debuted, i'm just saying Nissan hasn't shown any concepts or prototypes of their models before they are revealed.

Nissan has demonstrated that they are going for performance while keeping the price low. (GT-R, 370z) I have no doubt that the performance of the car will be good. However, most buyers not only look at a cars performance, but its visual appeal. Nissans record as of late shows that they are going for some out of the ordinary visual aspects for their vehicles. That is what makes me uneasy about the new s chassis. Sure, it will be an affordable RWD coupe...but will its looks appeal to those of us who are fans for the previous generations of s chassis?

It may intail some of the physical characteristics of its predecessors, much like the profile of the 370z recalls to mind the old 280z profile. But I'm hoping Nissan will do a bit more then this. The previous s chassis are clearly identifiable by the front ends which increasingly got more aggressive in appearance through the years. My wish is that Nissan carries on this aspect of the silvia and make the front end aggressive.

Perhaps that's just my thinking, but...its my .02 to this thread/topic nonetheless

Adam

I'm not trying to be offensive when I say this.....

but does anyone notice a "French" influence in some of Nissan's designs?

I know this has been brought up before in the pass after Renault bought a hefty stake in Nissan. It's just that now when I see some of their vehicles its more prominent.

deals are out there on 350's, i priced one at a dealer nearby that stickered for 32,215 and they offered it to me at 26,662. kinda tempting but they are just too impractical for what i need.

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE!!!!!

i ran into someone who works for nissan (i will not talk about what he does or mention his name...nor will i mention where i ran into him)...turns out from what he has told me (and he made it clear he wasnt supposed to mention any of this as they dont want the info going public yet)...there IS a new silvia planned for release in the next year...that the car is infact being built on the FM platform...what he didnt know yet was the actual name of the car (nissan hasnt decided on it yet)...he said IT IS rear wheel drive, IT IS four cylinder, IT IS being built on a modified FM platform and IT IS the replacement for the silvia/240sx worldwide

two VERY important peices of info he relayed to me...

1) THERE IS A CONCEPT READY!!!! he didnt say if it was physical or a rendering, but he did say there is a concept...that concept was going to be shown at LA Auto Show BUT, nissan decided at the last minute they didnt want to show it just yet...and it was PURELY based on marketing...the reason being is that they unveiled 3 important cars this year at the show...first being the 370z, second being the G37 convertable (as gay as it looks lol) and third being the CUBE...he said that these were all very important vehicles to be introduced this year and the new silvia/240sx replacement wouldnt have recieved the press and attention nissan wanted it to have...from the way the guy was talking about the car, it sounded as if there was a PHYSICAL concept car they wanted to show

2) THE CAR WILL BE SHOWN IN 2009!!! he told me that nissan has already started planning a event like the follow the Z thing going on around the country currently...by the details i was given it sounds like its going to happen around the same time next year as now (after the unveiling at the LA Auto Show and Tokyo Auto Show)

so my take on all this is...nissan will be having their own press conference within the next 6-9 months CONFIRMING the existance of the new Silvia/240sx replacement due to them pulling out of the Detroit and Chicago Auto Shows...my info at SEMA about the announcements came when they were still planning on attending the shows...but it is HIGHLY understandable about the economy as the reason they pulled out...but that doesnt mean information will cease to be made offical by nissan

the guy told me that nissan HAS been listening to and paying attention to the S chassis community and understands our absolute LUST and DEMAND for a new 240sx in this country...he mentioned nissan is fully aware of what we are looking for in the car and that we will be happy once the car debut's within the next year or so...and nissan plans to push the new Silvia/240sx replacement just as hard and as big as the 370z and the GTR...they know its a flagship car that has a MASSIVE following with the drifting scene and that their market competition from BMW, Toyota, Subaru and Hyundai is tough right now because of all their intro level cars

oh...he also made mention to my (and the rest of autoilluminatis) speculations about the coupe being positioned under the G35/G37 with a smaller V6 and slightly different interior/exterior to go against the BMW 1 series...nissan knows that they need a 1 series fighter hardcore...and the new entry level coupe is the way to do it

theres other details i have not included as i cant remember them all right now lol...but this is now TWO nissan corporate employees that have given me info on the car

Thanks for the info. 5 years ago I would have been so happy. Now I'll just sit back and see if nissan can deliver.
