![]() hey yah just got some new headlight(e-codes) with a higher watts bulb and now i need to upgrade my harness i cant find a write up or any information(or im just a bad searcher) on the subject so hopefully someone can help me out before i blind every one on the road haha
if you need more info just reply on here UPDATED* my fault i did this thread at like 3 in the morning anyway my car is an 1990 240sx hatch that has 200m autopal e-code(euro spec?) conversion head lights housing kit (using h4 bulbs which came standard forgot the watts waiting for money for some cibies or hella) i readed some where that if you where to use higher h4 bulbs for a more brighter light output you'll need to upgrade the harness to prevent from FAIL haha or maybe death of your car anyways the bulb im planning on using are 90/100w h4 lights btw i would also need to attach a fuse case for them also so i was wondering which guage yah guys would recommed to make it safe also what fuse to use . I also need a pic of the wiring of what to cut and what not or should i just skip all this crap i see if they have some bright fog light somewhere p.s doing this crap at 3-4 in the morn again 3-4 more hours before i go to work damn i need some sleepp.... first what car u have would be helpful. second i dont believe theres an upgrade harness so what u can do is diy and use higher gauge wires. I dont understand y u need to upgrade the harness because replacements SHOULDNT cause any problems like this and if they did the manufacturer would offer harness replacements. Did u replace the whole headlight housing or just the bulb? If anything, go to radio shack, move up in gauge level from the standard 8/10 guage wire? (correct me if im wrong) to the next one (lower number = bigger wire) and u should be fine. Im just worried about ur fuses though....

Wait...WHAT??? What the fuck does upgrading your headlight harness got anything to do with you blinding people?!?! You're changing a fucking bulb to a higher wattage bulb, its not gonna change or move your cut offs. The only reason you need to change wires is due to the higher wattage bulbs. Stock wires are too skinny and have a potential to burn up/melt/catch on fire due to the extra power draw and the bulbs running hotter. Its not rocket science like already stated, buy some crimper, some bigger gauge wire, crimp connectors (better yet, learn to solder) and atleast redo the wires from the wiring plug to the headlight plug. |

Sil-Abc..you are correct. Wire gets bigger as the gauge number gets lower.

Relays. Simple, add a relay per bulb. Or, keep the OE wattage bulbs, you're not gaining very much by going higher wattage if the housing isn't designed for it.

Yeah what car..is it a nissan or and audi/vw. I know I've seem that term e-code on vw sites. But that could refer european guidelines? Pretty sure they have plug and play harnesses on ebay. just match to your bulb size...h4, h3, 9005 etc.

I'd really like to see a picture of what all that ^ comes with. If there's no relays, fuses, and a lead to the battery it's useless.

See, that's stupid. How can it handle higher current without relays? If you're just stepping the wire up a gauge, the smaller gauge is still the weak point. I hope people aren't buying that shit.
