The South River, New Jersey-based Autobacs Strauss said it employs about 1,450 people and that it plans to use the Chapter 11 process to emerge as a cash flow positive entity.

I've never even been to auto bacs, I have always heard the prices were high as dog shit, all it takes is some searching on google and you can find half of the stuff you want to buy 200 dollars cheaper even.

I thought this was just a failed idea to buy the failing Strauss stores in the NW and try to compete with Autozone, Napa, Parts America.

Basically, Autobacs Japan made the move to buy Strauss, and it ended up biting them in the ass. So they decided to let the newly formed Autobacs Strauss go. As a corporation, Autobacs USA should be able to pull through.

damn...i havent seen one yet in nyc...all i saw was regular strauss with extra riced out mufflers and oil caps...they dont even have nice air refreshners..

Yes, the 2 SuperAutobacs in California are staying. If you don't live in PA, NJ or NY you are not affected by this.

Autobacs is cool for gettin novelty shit, books, dvds, tshirts, model cars, rear view mirrors, etc.. I dont know anywhere else where I can actually go look at that stuff... looking at tires. etc.. They sell performance parts at retail so thats about right. People here are usually accustom to internet specials etc since online retailers dont have much cover charge for a store front etc..

Dont like the prices, than pick a new hobby... building cars isnt cheap.

My thing is that right now, car modding is a luxury, not a necessity. So its really tough esp with the way things are right now. Who doesnt like going there? Its freaking rad when you park your car up front since theres usually some cool cars in the parking lot.

Regarding the topic, how many autobacs are there? i thought there was only 2 in socal and thats it...?

damn that sux i went to the one on beach drive i think in cali about 3 or 4 yrs ago and it was like a bestbuy for car..pretty insane i didnt see that there price were too high but they changed i guess.

People always complain about the prices, but you have to realize, it's a REATIL STORE. Online stores are different. Why don't people complain about prices at Macy's?
Another thing is that IF people knew how to talk to the sales dudes, they can give you pretty good prices.

Yeah that place was like a glorified autozone with horrendous prices. I bet the Japanese one is hella cool though.
Although they did have a Hello Kitty car cup holder I couldn't find anywhere else. Even at Sanrio stores.

Its gone.... Read the post on the translated Japanese website. Stanton was the Autobacs headquarters for that failing company.... But I wouldn't doubt that they would retain 1 store. But yah for a performance enthusiast, it doesn't offer that much stuff...
