sc300 question?
im really close to buying a 1994 lexus sc300. with the non turbo 2jz.
i know the 300 is a non-turbo supra motor, i dont want the v8 sc400, what im wondering is if i was to purchase a few used 2jz parts, as in manifold, turbo, ecu. would it work on the sc300? i have asked a few questions on supra forums and got the basic "try searching newb" answers, ive searched and found not much i realize i wont be able to boost as high as the stock supra's due to the high NA comp ratio, but what are some other problems i may run into? thanks a lot, matt

nobody is really hitting up the M30 yet! theres soo many things id "like" to do, but probably wont happen. an SC project has always been one of them. id imagine it gets expensive, and damn, "them bitches is heavy."

![]() and you dont want an SC because....?
Your asking if the 2jz turbo manifold would fit the non turbo, almost quarentee custome mod would be your only option. Your real quest is to just buy a aftermarket mani.

Ya I have heard turboing an NA Supra is a bitch, so I would assume turboing an NA SC300 would be to. I have found that supra motors aren't pricey (due to lack of demand) so go with that, but it hasnt been done much yet, so I would assume it would be a bitch. I do believe there is a 2jz powered SC in my area somewhere, some shops car.
And i do agree that Soarers are the next thing. Hondas were the first thing, then oour cars, next up is Soarers. See how we keep getting into higher HP cars. The main problem with out SCs is that they are rare, especially in manual. That was a swap I would want to do, but still too much of a newb and too poor. I am still hoping after college to tack some sort of other project, between 240z and sc, but both 2jzs, but if anything I prolly won't do it cuz 4 years is so long from now.

the biggest problem in turboing the 2jzge is the compression. iirc its 10:0:1 compared to the gte 8.5:1. so a turbo running low enough boost on um isnt worth it unless you rebuild. the scarcity of 5speed SCs makes them uber rare. I've seen ONE. and that was at NOPI a couple years ago. but hey the chassis is getting old and if you can get a good deal on a JDM Supra clip with the six speed it would be fun. that and getting that thing light would be a PITA. read the article on the Vertex D1 car. the steps they went through to get that thing light... (titanium bolts for the WHOLE car at 20 bucks A PIECE CF doors hood etc etc) insane. beautiful though. I'd wanna build an SC400 just to cruise in. pure looks and day to day duty though. that Vertex kit is hot

Like everyone said, it's a heavy car. It was designed to be a luxury sports car so Toyota didn't really have any reservations on weight.
2JZ is not the only option for this car. A cheaper 1JZ is also available. Or if you want to go all out, there's the VVTi versions that came in newere cars. I have thought of building a turbo SC but I'm leaning towards GS now/again. ![]() |
