s14 My shifter shakes my tranny...

Okay...When my car is on or off, if the shifter is in neutral, and I give in a "mild" pimp slap to the left or right, it feels as though my whole tranny is moving (which I would assume it moves when i am shifting driving)

Is it normal or do I need new tranny mounts?..I know the shifter is directly connected to the tranny, im just concerned about the shake I feel from under the car.....thanks! - Eric

I also have been having problems putting car in 1st and reverse when car is cold...

info on the car-
97 with 84k
Injen CAI
Apex N1
crappy centerforce clutch
new master/slave cylinders

The problems of it being hard to shift into 1st and reverse in cold conditions is probably due to the fact that the oil in the tranny isn't warmed up yet. This seems normal to me. As for the tranny moving, im not too sure what the problem could be but my shifter moves around when i hit the throttle and on the highway it shakes around. It's probably similar to your problem as well.

Thanks man!
Well, its 92 degrees out all day everyday...and almost 100% humidity..

I got my tranny fluid replaced, and it's seems like the problem with 1st and reverse started after that....think the fluid might be low?...

For it to be hard to shift because cold fluid it would have to be REALLY cold, like sub arctic temperatures. Gear oil lubricates while hot or cold, actually better when cold, as long as it is not frozen.

im here to give the classic answer given by people who dont know anything about trannies....: "i think it's the synchros."

hmmm, sounds like it could possibly be a transmission mount issue? as for the hard shifting, that is fairly common and could have to do with several internal transmission parts such as thrust washers and bushings and bearings and crap. or possibly even the SYNCHROS!! haha, because when the fluid is cold, the brake cones on the synchros are not able to cut through the fluid as easily to synchronize the speed gear, but normally this effect should go away pretty quickly.
