Question S13 4->5 lug conv. Worth it??

Hey guys, im getting an s13 soon, and im wondering if its even nessasary or worth it to do the 4->5 lug conversion. My goals for the s13 is basically to make it my little race car, for autocross, drift, and such. It will be pushed hard basically.

I know the wheels im getting, and they are offered in the 4x100 size. I know i will be getting coilovers of some sort (tein prob, i duno what much this has to do with the conv. though, lol) and i dont know about the brakes yet. I guess thats the only thing that leads me to this conversion. Are their any brakes available for the 4-lug? Anyone mod there suspension/handeling/braking and ketp the 4 lug?

What are your guys thoughts on this? Shoud i just go ahead and count on having to do this? I need to be sure before i order the wheels and stuff obviously.

Also, what other advantages am i going to get by doing this? Disadvantages to keeping the 4 lug?

Thanks!

I don't think 4x100 will work. I'm fairly sure it's 4x114.3.

Ohh and SEARCH!

You'll find out that the 5-lug is for a better wheel selection and not having to redrill out rotors on a 300ZX brake swap.

Ok, im an idiot. I mean 4X114.3...

welp..looks like the wheel selection does suck now.

So i have to do the 4-5 lug conversion.

BUT! I still need to know about the breaks...or..does the 5 lug swap mean i have to do the break conversion too.

Can i get aftermarket disc's with the 300zx's capilers??

By the way, i AM searching...i have searched a million times, with a million windows open.

U know what, nevermind, i dont even know what my specific questions are yet.

it's Brakes, not breaks..

anyways.. you can do everything without swapping to 5-lug. there are plenty of online retailers that sell 4-lug 300zx rotors.

Caliper clearance is all about spoke design.

Coilover clearance is wheel offset, and does have a little to do with the 5-lug swap b/c you get a much better selection of wheels with the proper offsets.

Thx, i knew i was spelling it wrong, just got a mind block i guess.

Well, i jsut realized i have to do the 5-lug conv. anyway. Because once in drifting im going to be using a bunch of old wheels and tires i have from past cars, mr2..rx7.. ect. They are all five lug. And are good for being burned up in the rear.

And the wheels i want are in 5 lug (black racing pro n1's, bronze)

The question now is only concerning the brakes. I suppose the 240 ones will have to do.

Looks like i will be in need of more research... oh why oh why couldnt the s13 come with 5-lug like a normal car...

doesnt matter if you live in so cali or not
there ARE great wheels IN low offsets
location is NOT an issue. money is. if u cant afford to ship or locate some, then dont be upset because its uncommon for YOU. 4 lugs that are just sick and low and deep and wide...are READILY available. depends if you got the $$$ to spend!

dont say that 4 lug wheels are slim options, because thats just ignorance.

personally, i think the 4 to 5 lug mod is probably one of the worst mods you can do UNLESS you have a specific reason to do so. so many other things to take care of first

location DOES matter. for example if i wanted some advan rims, chances are they are on the west coast, but not on the east coast

look at all the places raping(sorry, i mean selling) people for sr20's, almost all are from the west coast

other wise youre going to pay out your bum for shipping

no you dummies!!!!
you people are mixing this up..
he said:

uncommon for his LOCAL

nice looking are there
shipping? there are companies on east coast that sell SSRs, wats, etc

im telling him there are SOO MANY good looking 4 lug

i dont give a fuck where he lives.
its about the fact that there are good looking 4 lug wheels

that's the point

yeah location matters. duh.

4 lug wheels DO look good
4 lug wheels DO come in great offsets
4 lug wheels are VERY common

simple as that.

but there are SOOOOOO MANY good looking 4 lug

tough luck if you cant get them. that's the advantage of so cali. i can go pick up a set of ssr for 800 bucks. i can go get a set of wats for under 1k

if you cant. ahhh too bad.

i hate damn whiners.

money is no issue for me, but id rather just go to a tire shop and say i want this and they get it for me. but i go there and ask for something with a low offset in a 4 bolt and they look at me like im talking chinese or something. there is more selection in a 5 bolt, thats for sure. ok, so maybe there is 4 bolt wheels out there with low offsets, but i couldn't find anything at any shops i ever went to. and they told me that this sort of stuff was rare. you dont need to be harsh about it

I think that PROPER 5-lug upgrade for the 240SX involves quite a lot of parts, but I think that IF its done correctly, its one of the best upgrades you can ever do for the 240SX. To me, the difference between a 4-lug and 5-lug is what makes the 240SX more of a *serious* car. Why? Because:

1) Personally, I think you are limited in terms of rim choice. By rim choice, I mean WIDE rims. Sure, you can get plenty of 15" .. how do we call them nowadays, oh yeah.. "DRIFT RIMS." WHATEVER.. I am not down with these terms, but yeah.. there are plenty of good 15, 16, and even 17" 4-lug wheels.. but they usually arent super-wide. As soon as you step into 5-lug, thats when you broaden your wheel choices. Its only natural, all the bigger cars such as the Z32, FD, and A8 Supra ALL use 5-lug. More lugs = safer, always a nice thing to have.

2) Drilling Z rotors to 4-lug configuration is not ideal, thats just me. After much testing, I feel the Z brake package is not complete unless you do the front, rear, and MC. Using the Z brakes with 15" wheels may not be ideal, especially if you dont have super grippy and/or wide tires. The brakes are powerful and can easily lockup smaller wheels, plus they need a bit of ventillation.. again, larger wheels would be ideal.

Anyway, I know its possible to get performance out of your 4-lug setup.. but why, whats the point.. might as well do things right and go 5-lug, thats just the way I see it.
